G'day from JPH
« on: March 24, 2014, 09:26:13 PM »
Hi guys, been lurking on the forum for way to long and never said g'day!  Love the forum, plenty to read, love the trip reports and epic build threads.
We live in Geelong and have been camping all our lives, spent 18 years in Scouting, enjoying the outdoors, it's also how I met my wife. We now have two young boys who also enjoy camping.  Currently have a 150 Prado, with most of the toys, we currently have a 93 Jayco Eagle which has mainly done caravan parks, it's days are numbered with view to building a new van next year, something along the lines of a cc Exodus. However we need to finish the old mans build first, currently building an offroad motor home on a new Isuzu NPR cab chassis, Earthcruiser style.

I've been spending a fair bit of time in the high country the past few months recce out trips for the Pradopoint get together, just got back from a weekend in Talbotvile. Awesome part of the world and really loving getting out with the kids and swags.

Prado at Talbotville a few weeks ago.

Camping at Wonnangatta.

Cheers

Josh

Welcome, would love to see some pics of the earth cruiser.

It's in it's early stages at the moment, base is completed and mounted to the chassis, walls are made, just need to sort out the tanks etc and then it'll move pretty quick. Dads a mechanic and I'm a cabinetmaker, both self employed with factories about 150 m apart (used to be 15 m but I ran out of room and moved) so between us we've got a lot of toys, I mean tools..  My department will be fit out and cladding.

Base upside down for welding.

New cab chassis

Base back on the truck

I'll post some photos as it progresses.

Will do oldmate, I'll see how it progresses over the next few months, I may even start a build thread for it, not quite camper trailer but......

He also built a hard floor in 1986 that's still going strong.  Independent suspension and a side kitchen, class leading for its time, he built in six weeks after hours, including mum sewing the tent on her sewing machine in the front yard! Need less to say he wishes he kept building them!

Welcome to myswag.  Would love to see you start a build thread on your Dad's truck.  It doesn't matter that it's not a CT.  Looking forward to reading of your high country adventures.

Happy camping

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'll have to keep the diary free for one of the upcoming vic meets and put some faces to some names. Glad to hear its a possum free forum D4d, that spiralled way out of control! Travelling Tribe, it was your intro thread that made me realise I hadn't done one, even after suggesting the forum to you! Will be good to catch up and hopefully we can enjoy some camping adventures with our families!  I'll start a thread for dad's rig as soon as I can!

Cheers

Cheers BD, it was stock a stock 150 when I got it, spent some hard earned, but definitely now a great tourer, not too many things to do but enjoy it!  We spent a week on Fraser last year and had a ball, loved it to pieces! So many great places on the list to visit.

Welcome to MySwag and love the pics!!

Out of curiosity - how long does it take to set up the swag like you have it?

Look forward to more pics of the build up of the Earth Cruiser Isuzu!!

Thanks for more welcomes!

The swags take a couple of minutes to set up, nice and roomy and toasty warm! Maybe three minutes at the most, I keep a doona in them and just chuck a pillow in.

Dads build is getting there, nothing else photo worthy quite yet.

cheers
