JERRY CAN MODIFICATION
« on: October 10, 2013, 07:38:05 PM »
i hope this is in the right section....

On my new camper it has provisions for 2 jerry cans at the front for either fuel or water.
Because my cruiser can carry near 200 litres of diesel and the camper can hold near 100 litres of water, i thought what can I do with these holders ??
Well after my break in trip, i discovered several things where i need to carry several flat pieces of timber, due to taller tyres  a short jockey wheel and a base for jacking. I had 2 heavy duty plastic jerry cans in the shed- so i 3/4 cut the top off one so i can house these pieces of timber. All l need to do is to buy a simple clip to hold the lid down.

Made a pair of motorcycle panniers along similar lines.  Good for ice and cans as well muzz but not insulated so you have to drink up quick, hic.

l picked up a hitch hiker years ago standing on the side of the road with a jerry can . When asked if he ran out of fuel he replied " No its my suit case " . He had cut a flap in the side & hinged it . People picked him up thinking he need fuel .

Well done Kev, Have seen the top taken right off & a hinge pop riveted on to do the same thing - also needed a small catch to keep it closed

Some use the metal ones, but ours are plastic.  Rubbish one side, Recycling the other.

We have two steel ones I cut the top off and use one for a bin and the ther for tent pegs and guy ropes along with some other crap.  Ran a length of pinchweld around the top to keep them safe.

If anyone in Perth wants to make some I have one or two old steel jerries here that are available, no good for fuel anymore, you would need to collect from Kalmunda.

We drilled holes ... as we don't use a bag for the recycling anymore ... it helps when you wash them out too!  Any "wet stuff" goes into the recycling one (on top of course) ... but ours don't look that clean anymore ... they are usually covered in road grime or cow grime or a combination of both.   ;D
