Title: Projecta Battery Charger question and help.
Post by: Paul Mac on February 12, 2020, 08:45:45 AM
I recently purchased a couple of new 120 amph lithium batteries for the camper and now want to upgrade my battery charger.

I've done some research and the Projecta IC5000 or the Projecta IC5000L chargers look like a good choice. My questions are, does anyone know the main differences between these two chargers and which option would be best ? How difficult are the chargers to install ? Would I need an auto electrician ? Where can I buy a charger ? The projecta website doesn't give me a list of dealers near me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Paul

You can buy them online easily.
The difference between the "normal" charger and the lithium specific seems to be (what I have read) the charging profile and voltage.
Having said that, there are different opinions around if you really need a lithium specific.

What brand of batteries did you buy?

Thanks for a response. Bought the 2 new batteries from itechworld in Perth. Took about 5 days to arrive in Melbourne. I've replaced the lead batteries with the newbies but haven't been away and used them yet. Wanting to put a new charger in before heading out.

Cheers.

iTechworld mentions that their batteries are drop in replacement, no update of charger required.

There is a lot of talk about these on other forums, with what appears to be the majority consensus by people who seem to know what they are talking about, that even though the drop in claim is made by iTechworld it is a bit lacking in technical information so the conservative approach is to use a lithium charger.

If you were going to buy one anyway just get the lithium charger as hopefully everything would then be all sorted

If your worried about the charging of your new lithium with the old charger and you've also got solar fitted, you should look at the solar reg too.
For the Projecta charger $700 is a lot of cash IMO.

Ive been running these trouble free in my vans lithium set up for a few years now.

You can have both for less than the Projecta.

Buy an Enerdrive 40 amp .  Will do all batteries plus lithium.  I do not believe any advertising regarding drop in replacements. I saw one sold as a drop in replacement...read the fine print and it stated that at least once a month a dedicated lithium charger should be used to ensure cells remained balanced.  . Even wet cell, agm and deep cycle have different charging requirements...then to say just drop a lithium in..she,ll be right......not for me. Few extra dollars I,ll have a dedicated charger that covers all battery types.

Another vote for Enerdrive, I am running both the 40 amp DC2DC and the 40amp 240AC charger.
I be had no issues and also good assistance from their tech support when I was setting it up in our van.
I currently only running AGM batteries

Hi,
Ditto, but now run a 200AH Fusion Lithium from batteriesdirect.  (the charger is the Projecta 50A L)
Now about 100 days and 15,000km used and very impressed with how it is working.
Cheers
