750kg up to 1.02t ?

OK probably been asked before but cant find what i am looking for so i will ask .

On an unbraked trailer the rego sticker says ATM of 750kg , then above it say's ATM up to  1.02 t

what does the 1.02t mean , is it that if you put brakes on a 750kg trailer you are allowed up to but not over 1.02t

If not what does the 1.02t mean and why is it there to confuse people.

I am only asking this as i want to rego my trailer as a light trailer (750kg) with electric brakes and hoping that i can get up to the 1.02t in weight  or am i reading this wrong.

Very confusing if you are new to this.

Your VIN plate needs to confirm the weight not just the brakes.

i have a un braked trailer which i am getting brakes installed as i will be overwieght. the inspector said he also has to check my axle and suspension to see if the wieght will be a problem as well as the chassis itself. after all is good i need to get a mod plate made up to increase the weight capacity then re-register it.

If you put electric brakes on your trailer, the athorities assume your going to carry more, so your GVM (gross vehicle mass)of 750kg max weight includinging load at the moment, increases to 1.02t and so does the cost of rego AND it means a yearly inspection, don't know if yearly inspection happen in QLD for trailers over 750kg BRAKED.

Brakes mean it is able to carry more, they don't care if your not going too, so going on the vin, it means your trailer is designed for a max GVM of 1.02t if fitted with brakes.

so if i register the trailer with a ATM of 750kg and then put brakes on it after the fact  i am allowed up to 1.02t.
does that sound correct or have i F23ked it up again ha ha

  MMmmm. Is the 1.02 T on the Manufacturer's plate if so then the ATM is total legal weight that the trailer can be registered to carry if you comply with relevant conditions ie brakes (even over-ride would do) and pay up bucko....

If it's only on the rego sticker it means nothing.......

My trailer model on sticker was "over 1.02T", but the manufacturer plate said max axle group 1.0T and ATM 1.0T ... trailer only good for 1 Tonne regardless of whats on sticker.

Yeah its built with 1250 kg springs 1500 kg axle and off road electric brakes but i dont think it will ever get over 1.02 t loaded that's why i want to rego it as a 750kg .
but thats where i am confused as to why on a few of the trailers i have looked at it states ATM 750kg then under it also states ATM up to 1.02 t . so am i not understanding it rite
i have looked all over the net and no one still knows why its there .
For  the average Joe it read's as if you are allowed to have a max load of 1.02t if you have a braked ATM trailer of 750 kg.
If someone has the right answer please set me straight as i am ready to rego my new trailer.

not sure about other states in w.a. it works this way all trailers whether single or duel axles will be licenced for 750kg thats the all up weight of the trailer and load , you can then increase that limit to 2000 kg on a duel axle trailer with the right rated axles and springs with brakes fitted to at least one axle ,so a single axle will be 1000 to 1200kg , to go over 2000kg you need to have fitted breakaway brakes , hope that helps

If you put electric brakes on your box trailer and the vin states it is rated to 1.02t, then it needs to be registered for that weight.

This is a national regulation.

also just to add, after contacting qld transport about upping the weight rating of my trailer, it must be done by the original manufacturer, this also includes decreasing the rating.
its a S1 or S7 coding.
they keep your normal vin plate on the trailer and put a new one next to it with the new weight ratings.
