As the subject line says...is anyone going anywhere for the Queensland school holidays which officially start tomorrow?

Sadly we're not as Brett and I both have to work  :'(. The kids are kind of going for a holiday...they're going an hour and a bit down the road to Gladstone to Brett's Sister and Parents for three nights starting Monday.  I will be night shift for the three nights and Brett will still be out at Moranbah on day shift (he is 8 on 6 off for the next few weeks).

Let me live vicariously through you...tell me where you're going!

Mine are in private school and have already had a week off. We got home last night from a quick road trip to Charleville for a few nights with a night in Roma and miles also, checking out things we have always just driven past. Highlight for the kids was the observatory in Charleville and the first class pub dinner in miles. They’ve never seen plates of food that big. We had the dog with us so used motels. We would have paid the difference between a campsite and accomodation easily in the fuel savings so that has me scratching my head a bit. Not to mention how easy it all is. Happy holidays! Special mention to Golders clothing shops in Roma and Charleville. Australian made flanno shirts for the kids amongst other stuff. We bolted when they started asking for RM’s and Akubras though haha.

When we had dinner at the pub at Blackbutt last year, they were the same :cup:

But they're prepared for it in advance - on a table just inside the dining room, there's a stack of self-serve take-away dishes, so you can just grab a couple of them, load up the remains of your dinner & take it with you! ;D :cup:

Taking the grandkids down to a northern NSW beach camping spot for a few days. Weather forecast a week ago was terrible, but luckily the weather makes up its own mind.
We have a "kids room" attached to our Ultimate camper, and a very solid set of double bunks which work a treat. Down sleeping bags will help !!!
Much junky , but home-cooked food will be the order of the day, and possibly some rather cool and quick dips in the Pacific. Warm showers a must.

Cheers

;D ;D ;D I feels for you Missy J ...The big Pig  broke my stride in being able to go to fraser for for the past couple of years, with Border closures etc ..
Friends / Co workers are rubbing it in, with the " It always rains when you go on holidays " bit ..
Well I dont care .... I'm going to Fraser on Holidays ....
Recalling memories of 2012, with a week of Tropical cyclonic weather leading up to departure day / and on the trip up and on Fraser / broken toe the night before leaving ..  The 40+ kt winds horizontal rain / 100m visibillity /  wave dodging in and out of bays at low tide ..Five days of camping in that ...
Then the Sweetest freshest clear Vivid coloured five days on Fraser, you could ever wish for ..

Just finished the Gibb Road today. had to do the bit from Silent Grove to Derby on a tow truck as a puncture shredded thevtyre and wrapped it around the hub, calibres and diff. Took three hours to cut away and change the tyre to find it had broken a brake line and we couldnt get it to seal off with crimping. We are in Broome now and the girls will fly home to Brisbane next Sunday.

Thanks guys. It happened 2km from our destination. Luckily we were only doing about 30-40kph due to the corrugations. We had stopped at Imintji for lunch and everything was ok on departure. Just unlucky I guess. The whole of the Kimberley is packed at the moment. Mt Barnett recorded their biggest day ever last week. More traffic on the Gibb than on the bitumen. Teenagers and Mum are ok as they are back to civilization. Hopefully it won’t take too long to get the Defender repaired and back on the road to Brisbane via East Arnhem Land. Cheers.

It's certainly been a memorable trip...in many ways! Loved our time on the Gibb in 2014  ;D
