Interesting to see Brad Binder at the pointy end of the grid!
-
Binder too inconsistent....
Hope its a great year for Marc Marquez on the Repsol Honda (RC213V)
or Monster Yamaha (YZR-M1) Red Bull KTM (RC16), Suzuki Ecstar (GSX-RR), WithU Yamaha RNF (YZR-M1), KTM Tech3 (RC16), LCR Honda (RC213V)
Think Remy will struggle, Fernandez will finish above him and win at least 1.
-
Marc didn't look too flash after the warm up lap mishap. Poor bugger. What a thing to happen!

Shame no Free to Air anymore. but theres 30 channels of fake reality Shit for the brain dead instead..just have to watch random highlights online.

Yeah thank good ol Rupert Murdoch for that, the cahn...
Got a video pass from Dorna which cost me $230- but I aint missing it. Put an app on my appleTV box. Huge fan, it is easily the best motorsport there is.
You can apparently get it on Kayo too but that is owned by the same cahn (copyright Fred Gassit) who took away fta.
-
Yeah Honda built their 2022 motoGP bike around the new Michelin tyres and spec ecu.
A tyre carcass last used in 2018 due to concerns with heat just didn't suit them.

I pay $25 a month for Kayo Basic and I reckon I get dollar value from the bikes, cricket, footy and sundry sports.
$25 for not watching the same ad, at every break in play is a small price to pay.
I don't have FTA in my cave.

I always thought that things had to be on free if it was on pay.... anti bending over aussies laws or something ...

I am not rewarding the bastard who took away my ability to watch the sport I love on fta by giving him money.
Don't have a great deal of respect for him in general tbh.

I think the end of career is just about apon Marquez.. his double vision returned after the tumble on weekend
-
I think the end of career is just about apon Marquez.. his double vision returned after the tumble on weekend
I hope not, as he has been able to do stuff on a motorcycle nobody else has.
Due to the heat and tyre preservation, Michelin bring a tyre to Indonesia for "safety", with a carcass that hasn't been used since 2018 and an off throttle highside on corner entry does this.
Wasn't too safe at all on that Honda.
I hope he comes back, but yeah the damage is just accumulating. He isn't around at the top for alot longer it appears :(

Talkin to him while marshalling at the GP hes also really down to earth compared to some of the hollywood stars.

Nice. :)
I've never met him but loved the way he stood up to the crap Rossi and his fans served up to him.
Did his talking on the track and was untouchable 8)

Reports the best has retired.. :'( :'( :'(
Marc Marquez will not return to MotoGP, even if his diplopia is gone. The decision has been made, with only the official announcement to be made in the next few days.
Motorcycle Sports reports that the Spanish Repsol Honda rider has begun to ponder his future after being diagnosed with diplopia following his warm-up crash at the Indonesian GP. It is the second time in around five months that he has suffered from the condition following a blow to the head.

I have no idea what it would be like with Diplopia at 300 kph........................................and I don't want to!
There's worse ways to retire though. I'm sure he's reasonably comfortable, pension wise.

It would have been a hard decision for someone so young but the right one. ;)

Maybe a little early, possibly 20million which he is seeing twice! :D

Who could be the next superstar of Moto GP? Having the skill, courage and determination of M Marquez is very rare. He superseded Rossi as a generational champion and now we search for the next. Interested to hear what others think may happen.

There is always someone lurking in the wind but when they will show themselves, is another matter. ;D

Nothing on Speedcafe would indicate retirement, three stories over the last three days.
-
Argentine Qualifying Grid Report suggests he may return shortly! :cup:
-
Yeah they showed a twitter or some other platform photo of him watching the race with family during the telecast on the Dorna setup.
No mention of retirement.
Good race and a great result to see after all those starts.

Sadly hes finished. One more big crash and its curtains. I also think Gardner is out of his depth sadly
Your medical basis for that?
Yeah he needs to tone it down a bit but it is curtains for anyone with a big enough crash.
He first suffered diplopia in 2011 it was I believe. Went 10 years before suffering it again.
I aint writing him off yet.
Gardner needs more time. I don't see him being one of the best but let's see toward the end of the year.
-
Yeah he needs to tone it down a bit but it is curtains for anyone with a big enough crash.
then he may as well not be there. At that level its 100% or your nothing but midpack miller.
-

I have been watching for almost 40 years.
Nobody, but nobody has ever been able to push a motorcycle like Marquez.
He pushes over the limit in practice to find just how far he can in the race.
He needs to just knock that back a bit.
The bloke rides at 90% and he is still at or near the front.
Yes there is new talent, yes he is older now. I don't expect him to dominate again like he has previously but he can definitely still be there once he sorts the bike.
Show me anyone else who has ever been able to do this with the front of a motorcycle
https://youtu.be/RXQcX7xzdxY
Best I have seen no doubt.
Better than Doohan, better than Casey. Rossi not even close.
-

what your the lone ranger there?
I've worked and been involved in running more Bathurst/world supers/500's/motogp/aus titles/nsw titles/club events which i was also the race secretary than I care to remember.
Yep, he can do things others couldn't, but hes still a human that breaks and now breaks easier than before. hes not the first wont be the last to have to admit defeat due to health issues. YEp he may come back and win a few races.. but I dont think he will ever get back to how he was.
If your not 100% your not in the game... Even Remy is finding that out with his wrist injury taking months longer to heal to 100% from his training crash.
Being a HRC fan personally its sad to say he still the best title chance of the 3 (Pol/Bradl or him) :(
YMMV

I am not saying I'm the lone ranger at all. Just saying I have seen plenty of riders and he is the best.
We are similar ages and have met. You bought my son's old bicycle off me ;)
Yeah, I don't see him dominating like he has previously but a healed cranial nerve problem is not a reason to write him off imo.
Yeah he is the leading contender of all the HRC riders as he should be. You forgot his brother btw but yeah no chance there.
He is still one of the best riders in the world even with all the hammering that riding past the limit of tyre adhesion has given his body.

It was only that source though.
As they said, if it was true it'd be everywhere.
Anyway, yeah I hope he chills a bit even though I love that past the limit style only he has ever been able to do.
Lost count of the number of times I've been stunned by what he can do.
That race a few years back when he just had to grab a few points to grab the title again.
Nup, goes into a fast L hander and loses the front. Anyone else is down but he holds it and runs of the track. Straight back into it again. Wtf! 8)

Ducati crowding the front of the grid.

I can't see that happening, unfortunately. There appears to be a little bit of 'Attitude' there and not the correct one.

He isn't championship winning material and there is more talent coming through.

The 1/4 horse will be hard to beat. He can turn that thing on a 1cent piece.. proves speed isnt everything
If the zooks could get off the line, they'd be competitive, they come good at end of the race when its too late.
Shame so many riders are only in it to make up the numbers... Moto3 is still the most exciting to watch with so much chaos :D
-
Good ride by Miller, but the winner can just save those tyres so well.
MM would have struggled with his late race speed even if he had have been there without a woeful start.
-
I didn't pick that outcome and gap.
29sec ahead of the next bike of the same make.
He out Lorenzoed, Lorenzo.
Any idea who will be at the front in Jerez this weekend?
No idea myself but looking forward to it!
-
I'm thinking the big Q, going by the last two years, but three in a row may be asking too much!
It's good to have a multiple choice situation, ay! :D
-
Pecco is back, great ride!
Fabio did well also and again way ahead of the other Yams.
MM trying to get that Honda to do what he needs.
Still capable of holding a folded front like no other.

I was a little surprised that Q couldn't close to under .4 of a second, in the final 3-4 laps. It most likely shows that Pecco had his measure and was quite comfy with his own times.
Hypothetically, I wonder how Pecco would have gone if Q got the jump at the start?
-
would have been interesting of roadblock miller had got out of the way for Espargaro and others to go.. Espargaro certainly had better pace, but that thing is still years off being a serious contender sadly.

Yeah it looked like Pecco had the speed.
I'd have given Pecco more chance of passing with the Duke motor but would have been interesting.

Didnt see this coming.
Suzuki to pull out of MotoGP….
The Japanese manufacturer was a mainstay in MotoGP through the 500cc era, winning world titles with the likes of Barry Sheene, Marco Lucchinelli, Franco Uncini, Kevin Schwantz and Kenny Roberts Jr.
Suzuki continued in MotoGP when it switched to the four-stroke formula, but would withdraw at the end of the 2011 season due to financial difficulties having only run one entry for Alvaro Bautista that year.
It rebuilt the project in the ensuing years and would make its full-time return in 2015, becoming race winners again in 2016 at Silverstone with Maverick Vinales having last taken a MotoGP victory in 2007.
And in 2020 Suzuki won its first world title in 20 years courtesy of Joan Mir.
Motorsport.com understands the heads of Suzuki gathered all members of the MotoGP team on Monday and communicated its decision to quit the series at the end of the year.
It is a decision that has come as a shock to all within the team.
An official announcement will likely arrive in the next few hours.
The shocking announcement has thrown the futures of 2020 world champion Mir and three-time race-winner Alex Rins into the air.

Looking at the grid for Mugello, I'm thinking the Quart is a big chance, with Bagnaia there, or there abouts.

Further surgery for Marquez.
https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1003937/1/marc-marquez-step-back-motogp-and-undergo-fourth-arm-operation
Still no good that R shoulder and it being so weak is throwing extra strain on the L shoulder.
We will see.
Here's hoping it is better, I love watching him ride 8)
-
Said it before but his time is up.. hate to say it but hes a young bloke with a long life ahead of him.
So hes out for this year, and chances are still recovering early in new season. Not good for sponsors to stay on..
Now that zook has bailed there is a few good options for replacement riders. Even midpack miller will be looking for a seat
I dont feel hes getting good advice from the people around him.
its happened before will happen again.

I'm tending to agree. I don't want to, but you've got to face facts, hey. :-[
I reckon he'll wake up one day, during recovery and realise the time has come. It's going to take a big call though, from someone so skilled and competitive.
-
His time dominating the field like he has previously, is definitely done I agree.
He is however still one of the best on the planet if fit.
He has achieved alot by being the only person who can push the front of a motorcycle that hard and stay on board.
I think it is now probably harder to catch the front with the evolution of tyres, and more importantly the added down force wings have provided.
He is no longer strong enough with that shoulder either.
I still hope to see him back at the front on occasion after the surgery but don't expect to see him ever dominate again as he once did.
It was great to watch and I hope to see a bit more wtf in future, but yes the body is not going to let him do it like he has previously.
I do not want to see him physically destroyed and would hope he moderates himself a bit.
-

I think he will get to testing later in the year and his eyes will open, hes not the kinda bloke to just ride around like 95% of the field are these days... I also think Honda will run out of patience
-
Honda are paying him a Shitload of money and they wont want him on a Ducati for instance.
You would expect they have realised the other riders they have can't ride the thing any better than Marc with a buggered shoulder.
They need someone else as well, as without Marquez they are nowhere.
Wont be surprised to see Joan Mir there next year.
I back a fit Marquez well ahead of him still however.

What's the track like with water, overall? Rea there sections that pond, or is it a good draining track? I can't recall watching a wet race there.
A couple of mates on motorcycles, should nearly be there today. :'( :'(

They cancelled a Superbike meeting there few years ago due to Shit drainage - which forced them to spend a fortune on the drainage.

Same..
The issue will be most flag marshalls usually camp there at the track or around it... Our club did for years... before and after it went to Eastern creek...

MotoGP fans heading to Phillip Island this weekend are being urged to stay across updates online about how the weather has impacted parking and camping at the event.
The decision to restrict camping a month ago looks to have proven a good one due to this week’s deluge.
“The event will go on, and it’ll be sensational,” Andrew Westacott, CEO of Australian Grand Prix Corporation, told Neil Mitchell.

I don't think he would have been at the pointy end, but never a good thing, especially in your 'Home' event.
