6 week trip
« on: February 17, 2014, 04:41:39 PM »
Hi Guys and Gals,

The better half and I are planning on a 6 week trip (leaving in a few weeks)

Now our problem is the wife wants to see the NSW coast but I don't really know of too many places to see except for Trial Bay and Illaroo camp Grounds.
We would like to get to Victoria but if we don't then we can go back down there later on in the year.

Whenever we travel we always go 1 way and then come back a different way, So our plan is to go down the coast road but either come back up through the middle of NSW or up through Broken Hill and onto Cameron's Corner.

We can pretty much camp anywhere as we are pretty self sufficient in the way of water (180litres) and we have ample of 12volt power (200amp deep cycle) and we also have a 2.0eui Honda generator.

The vehicle is a 2inch lifted GU patrol 4.2tdi towing lifestyle 360 offroad camper trailer.

So basically what we are asking is what other areas throughout NSW/Victoria is a must see. Once we get some ideas I might even get motivated and organise a itinerary that way if other members are in the general areas we can catch up if its convenient.

We have family in Frankston, Foster and on the Mornington Peninsula.

Yours Sincerely
Greg and Ranae

not on the coast, but be sure and go via Old Grafton / Glen Innes Rd and check out The Waterfall Way and around Dorrigo area if you haven't done so before.

Theres a heap a nice places to potter about on the coast. Crowdy Bay National park is just one. Point Plomer too.

Why not plan on doing the Great Ocean Road whilst your at it. 6 weeks is plenty of time, and if you don't mind a bit of driving easily doable.

Heres a quick itinerary for you:

Leave Brissy, drive for 6 hours, that should see you somewhere in the vicinity of Port Macquarie. Stop for the night.

Next morning get your skates on and drive to Canberra. Stop for 2 nights and see the sights.

After you've had enough of war memorial and national galleries, hitch up and head off. Next stop Warrnambool / Port Fairy. Stop.

Spend a few days mooching up the GOR to Torquay. Yes its better to travel the GOR from east to west, but really only along the "cliff" section. Find a good spot to camp and take your time. The Great Ocean Road is only about a 3 hour drive anyway.

From Torquay head up towards Beechworth and its surrounds. Kosciiuszko National Park, Jindabyne, Lake Eucumbene to name a few other spots. A few days in and around these parts then hit the south coast. From Eden up theres a a lot to see.

Mooch up the coast, bypass Sydney, then continue up the coast.

You could achieve all that in 4 weeks, 6 easily.

Start googling ...  ;D

Now is a great time to see Victorias coast particularly if you don't like cold weather.

Don't forget the south coast of NSW and the southeast corner of Victoria.  You can wander along gere with no issues of camping spots (unless you hit Easter) just use the Camps 6 book and the net to find places that suit you.

Personal favourites are Tahra, Ben Boyd national park, Croajingalong National park and the Gippsland Lakes.

If you're after a nice place to stay for a night or more check out Moonee Beach. 10mins north of Coffs so a good base to check the Coffs Harbour area.

Ha ... funny that. Only yesterday the cheese-n-kisses was having a look at Moonee Beach on the internet. We've driven by it 100's of times and never stopped for a gander. It looks pretty good hey.

Doing a trip down the NSW south coast now. Highlights have been Hobart Beach in Bournda NP, good level campsites and hot showers. Mallacoota if you have a boat is brilliant. Tonight we are in Bermaqui CP. Brilliant little town. Pub is 30 metres away, couple of good coffee shops. Nice spot.

If you are planning to come back up the centre then don't miss out on Mungo Nat. Park in Western NSW, that's if you get down that far.

Make sure you stop in at Merimbula. That is one of our favourite spots on the south coast. While you are at it stop in at Eden as well.
Were are you family in Frankston and Forster?
I was born in Rosebud and grew up in Forster. My folks are still there.
Enjoy your trip.

We've booked another week there before Easter during the holidays. We fell in love with the place after seeing it on TV last year and trying it out during the September school hours. Great place to de stress and kick back and watch the world go by.

Have you thought about weaving inland from the NSW south coast?  Bendethera valley in the Deau national park is a really nice spot (busy on long weekends). Enter from Moruya and exit toward Braidwood then perhaps onto Canberra for a look around and then down to the Snowy Mts, Geehi and Tom Groggin are a couple of spots right on the NSW/Vic border - plenty of other great sites in the high country to choose from too.

You mentioned you have relatives to visit in Foster...is that Foster Victoria?  Just down the road from Wilson's Prom, definitely worth a night or two.  Also not far from Waratah Bay and Sandy Point, also good camping areas.  Then you can head back north through the Vic Coast, Woodside, Loch Sport, etc, then on to Tyres, Lakes Entrance, plenty of great camping areas around the Lakes, then follow the coast north, or back north along the Snowy, up through Omeo etc. into the High Country...plenty of options there!!  Good luck with the decisions!!

Green Patch, Booderee NP is stunning. The whitest sand, lots of wildlife, and close to some magic sea cliff views.

It's just around the corner from Huskisson and Jervis Bay.

Also Pebbly Beach (home of the surfing kangaroos) and Depot Beach in Murramarang NP, just north of Bateman's Bay, are beautiful spots too.

Happy travels!

Not in NSW or on the coast but it is within an easy drive of the coast. Beautiful spot.

Myall Lakes / Mungo Brush is nice too....
