5" tent peg causes breakdown
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:27:07 AM »
wife and i were crossing cerebus tk in the cathedrel range last friday and drove over a section of four to the metre potholes lasting 150 metres when i loked at my temp gauge and it was dead so we stopped got out and lifted bonnet to check temp as it was a warmish day.I noticed my redarc unit wasnt glowing so istarted looking at fuses and found that my dash display fuse was blown, replaced it with another and smoke puffed from behind the dash.to keep story short a small tent peg from the kids tent fly was put on dash when they didnt pack it with tent and it went down the holes in the dash and shorted between the body and the printed circuit thing on the rear of the instrament panel which in turn dropped all dash gauges except speedo as well as excitement circuit to alternator and aircon system.end result no charge to starter battery or fridge battery or fridge and no gauges!! Am very glad we were not outback or deep bush on our own.moral of this story dont place anything conductive up on dash tops.cheers danny

Good point!

Similar to when we built our last house.  When excavating the builder struck blue stone and had to get an excavator with a hammer to break it up.
Being born again christians (really nice people) the builder and his crew arranged for a prayer meeting with their pastor on site to pray that it would not be too bad.

The bill came to $18,000.00  :'(

I said to the builder "your prayers didnt help much hey"

He said: "Didnt they?.  Imagine how much it could have been!"

All in the way you look at things.  ;D
