Title: Roof Racks and Spare Wheels
Post by: xcvator on March 07, 2024, 08:05:05 AM
A question for the people that carry a spare wheel on a roof rack, how do you get the wheel up onto the rack and off safely ?

Even worse in 35 degrees after fighting with a flat on a lifted car at teh end of the day.. although not as bad as doing ti in murray sunset on mates 80 which is a touch higher than yours.

Our work 4wds we used to roll the wheel up the bonnet and windscreen  ;D
For non-work trucks, it's probably not the best option for keeping one's vehicle in concourse condition.

Tip for when one gets home... when you pull it off the roofrack, don't drop it to the ground and let it bounce on your water meter ...... not that I'd know .....by doing it twice.........

I mounted this little winch to a bit of pine and strapped it to the second row seating in the back of my Pajero to winch a 7kw air con unit up a couple of pine rails into the back of the car.  Perhaps a similar arrangement would work for a spare onto a roof rack.  You'd need to carry a suitable length of timber to drag the wheel up.

Deflate it first so it doesn't bounce? Just watch out for ya feet, and maybe small children.

carry a spare wheel on a roof rack

Hey X, you're worried about spares on an M-Ux.

How about this rig? Notice where the spare is? ;D

I did ask the bloke how he got the spare down, & he said there's a crane up there!
