Size does matter.....
« on: January 15, 2016, 02:32:51 PM »
Hi All,

Found this amazing forum earlier this week -  We are very new to myswag and camping.

We are a family of 5  and looking to buy our first secondhand camper trailer (<6K). (loving the look of the Skamper Camper Ranger, livestyle walk thru and the Alpha Black Series)

However I have found size is an issue, especially when I comes to caravan parks and camp sites. 9" - 10" - 12"

What size camper does everyone have and how many rooms.... we were looking to buy one with an annex and kids room...it must have separate room for kids. (if anyone has one for sale) :D

Thanks for your help.

Welcome
you will find many van parks have different sized sites..

We have stayed at Big 4 Renmark a few times and have had different sized sites from easily fitting with plenty of room to ropes into the next site... We have a 12ft tent...

good luck

G'day and welcome to myswag.

We have a 12' and it has been snug on a few CP sites (not that we frequent CPs often, mainly try to avoid them like the plague).  Reckon with a kids room on the other side it would be even worse.

Happy camping

Welcome.
When we had our soft floor camper we had much the same issues in Caravan Parks.
Very rarely stayed on them. But when we did, I can't think of one where we could put the second awning up.
Some Parks have "wilderness  areas" - meaning the sites are less formal and you can spread out a bit.
Not sure on your power situation, they are generally unpowered. But some will still have power.
CP can be difficult as they downtime dictate which way your camper has to face etc. Which may not work so well on the site you are given.
It's probably best to speak to them rathe than booking online etc if size is an issue for you.  They may be able to ensure you get a larger site.
I will add... If it helps..
When our kids were young plus two dogs ( so family of 6)
We still found we rarely put up the second awning.
You tend just to sleep and eat around/ in the camper.
Sit by the fire at night..  Doing things doing the day.
Bigger isn't always better.
Good luck with your search.

Always give 100%... Unless you are giving blood.. then it may not go so well...

That's what I had heard that sometimes more area in the tent is actually more hindrance than help
Thank you everyone for your help. With three daughters I say there will be more glamping than camping... So that's why I needed to know about parks.
Might stick to 10" with kids room (best of both worlds)
Thank you everyone. Now to find the CAmping trailer.
Happy camping.
