Title: Gold detectors
Post by: Pottsy on January 05, 2018, 10:11:06 AM
Thinking about having a crack at doing some gold and relic detecting when we are out and about for a bit of fun.
Any recommendations from users on a proven detector around $1000
Thanks in advance.

For $50  You can get one that beeps to tell you its found metal when you move it through the air in an open space ... Hopefully it will be able to find enough coins in the sand to repay the cost of it and the 9V batteries  By next Christmas .. Thanks kids  ;D

For 1K your looking at a detector  new or preloved   ??? that will get  you hooked or not  . Walking around looking for a Good Beep might put you off . lf you were to invest 2 or 3 times that amount then your in a different class of kit . Do some Minelab research in store & on the Evilbay  . This will provide you with more info .

Done the deed, went to Minersden in Adelaide and bought a Minelab exterra 705 dual coil, now for some fun and hopefully recoup some dollars over the years.
See ya on the diggings!

Hit the beach early  in fact just after dawn before all the others turn up . Make yourself a curse sieve so you can dig up the targets with out using your hands . Sometimes you have to be careful . You will find hair clips , ring pulls , wire , tin foil ,cans , bottle tops , coins & jewellery of all sorts of stuff  . Have fun

You would be better off with a gold pan .  Join a club and learn from all the people who made mistakes

Way to go Pottsy, and had a lot of fun I bet.

Last week I found 2 small bits close together so Mrs Kangaron got the rake out, and they kept coming.
Have to go back to find big brother.

Stuff all, about 3 grams @ $50 per gram.
But when you go out every week it soon adds up.

At least it keeps you in beer money and gives you some exercise  ;D ;D
Where and how do you cash the gold in ? Do you need  to register as a prospector ?

Victoria have a 10 year miners right for people that want to fossick about.
It's $24.20 for it. And you can get it on line.

https://checkout.payments.com.au/minersRight/

Not sure about selling the proceeds.

There are regular Visitors from the USA to the local area who pay spot price [cash as well]
Any gold found by a holder of a miner right is tax free, so no need to inform anyone, no matter how big the sale.
Most of us don't sell, and watch the price climb.
I think it will double in five years from now.
People come from all over the world to detect in the Dunolly, Moliagul, Kingower area, which has historically produced more large gold nuggets
than anywhere else in the world.
In the last 6 weeks we have seen a 100oz, 90oz and a 30oz make an appearance.
Most good finds are sold privately and do not hit the press.

Dig out those detectors, but only if your an overseas company...

Victoria is primed for a new gold rush as the state government throws open 1500 square kilometres of land for international companies to probe for the precious metal.

Authorities estimate there is still $150 billion worth of gold in the ground with only half the gold across Victoria thought to have been discovered.

Great Grandfather had a mine near Menzies back at start of last century. Found this article while researching family history.  It was the richest mine in the area.
