You might need a Wolftooth goatlink to get the rear mech in the right position.

https://bikepacking.com/gear/guide-to-mullet-drivetrains/

I did have that thought as well but the derailleur is designed for the big cassettes so I would think it would just work. Anyway I went back down to the shed and talked nicely to it and had a bit of a fiddle with cable tension. I've set the cable tension at the derailleur pretty high, higher than I would with a shimano mech, and I managed to get it to shift onto the 40t cog and it stayed there. It's far from being perfect but it's a start. Managed to shagged the shift cable at the mech so it's on hold til next week. Slowly, slowly catchy monkey.
Cheers, Mike.

One thing that I do when making adjustments is, once I think that I have it right, I turn the cranks backwards and listen for any noise indicating that the chain is trying to ride up the side of teeth.  ;)

Finally allowed to venture further than a 5km radius so I took the opportunity this morning to go for a long ride. I think everybody else had the same idea. Other than being very busy it was great to ride a few of my favourite trails again.

Neighbour went to Lysty this morning and hit the trailhead at 7.00... by the time he got back to the car, 450m long cars on the road in, and full car parks

I took off for a bit of a gravel explore yesterday also.  I don't think many others had the same idea as I hardly saw anyone.  A few cars on the main roads but overall very quiet and peaceful.
Saw the Lysty photos and thought that was crazy.  I had friends that ran/rode early yesterday and basically became trapped trying to get out.

N+1 strikes again. Just ordered for this...............
https://www.bicyclesonline.com.au/2021-marin-san-quentin-3-hardcore-hardtail
This is the bike I wanted in the first place but I got a 2020 Trek Roscoe 8 due to the Marin not being available. Sort of glad I waited because the 2021 Marin has a better spec compared to the 2020 Marin. New bike is due at the end of November so I'll give the Roscoe a big clean and shine and put it up for sale.
Cheers, Mike.

Nice bike, I've been thinking about getting a hardtail, I miss the simplicity and light weight.

BTW it's not N+1 if you sell the old bike :)

Hey brains trust does anyone know of a good specd hardtail with a double chain ring up the front

I want the double as this bike will also be getting me to work so need it to be geared to hold a bit of speed.

All the double chain ring ones i have seen seem to be bottom of the range and i am looking for something a little better

Does it have to be a hardtail? What about a gravel bike with 27.5 wheels?

Ordered some frame protection for he new bike. Ended up getting some for the boys bike as well. Can't have Dads' bike looking cooler than his.
https://www.dyedbro.com/
Also ordered an Shimano ISCG05 front chain guide. Later on this morning the Roscoe is going up on the work stand and getting a deep clean and going over ready for sale.
Cheers, Mike.

Back when I was a teenager the only way to find out about what was going on in cycling was to read magazines. My father worked for a Belgium company and he would bring me back European cycling magazines when he travelled over there. I vividly remember the first time I saw a red Pinarello complete with the recently released Campagnolo Delta brakes. They were a work of art compared to what was around back then, and still are to this day. 30 years later I have been fortunate to find a bike with Deltas, not a Pinarello but a Colnago Master one owner from Italy, and it will soon be on it's way to Australia. I'm like a kid on Christmas morning with excitement.

I’m not usually hugely into retros, but you have ticked any box I have with that one. Congratulations, they are a work of art IMHO.

Thanks, here's another pic. My only mod will be to swap the hideous saddle for a Selle Italia Flite titanium.
