4WD Wheel Step
« on: May 27, 2017, 11:20:24 AM »
Hi all , just wondering what others would recommend . I need a step to help put up and remove gear from my LC 80 roof Basket , what would be better a Caravan type portable plastic step or a foldable Wheel type that fits over the back wheel ? , cheers.

Foldable wheel type for mine.
There is so much more area to stand on when using them.
As for a normal set of steps, there's barely room enough.
Tyre step packs down a lot flatter too.

We have a wheel step that we keep in the canopy of our 79 dual cab, it's pretty convenient to use when accessing the fridge etc and doesn't take up much space.
If you have a caravan or camper where you would also use a caravan type step then it would make sense to buy one of those. Otherwise the wheel step is more compact and does the job. The other advantage being that you don't have to worry about uneven ground etc.

Thanks for replies , no Caravan and I reckon the fold up Wheel sort would take up less space , cheers.

I haven't tried the tyre step.  I used to just stand on the tyre itself as you get more height and subsequently further reach.  The calves do get punished though.
