Title: Cobb Dangers in Campers
Post by: Digger on January 06, 2011, 04:21:14 AM
Hi All
Just up late doing the late feed for my new son and was reading a few magazines and came across a letter which I thought I would share with fellow my swaggers.

" we returned to our van and lit up our Cobb using cobblestones to warm up before retiring for the night. We had done this many times before usually with heat beads , but we would normally put it outside before going to sleep . On this occasion , as it was late and cold we fell asleep.
My husband woke several hours later to find me unconscious and called an ambulance. He suffered a small heart attack due to the stress. We were treated with full flow oxygent in hospital to combat the carbon monoxide poisoning we suffered."

I own a Cobb and think they are great but beware of cold nights , think a nice port before bed will do me and bring the dog along for my new son Cooper  ;D   Oh yes forgot swmbo an extra warm doona

Cheers Digger ,got to go someones wakening

The Cobb is marketed as a cooking device, and not a camper heating device, and anyone with even the slightest amount of common sense will use it in the correct manner.

The Cobb is very dangerous as the meals of top quality will be consumed with lots of grog . You heart will have troble trying to pump around the over fed , over watered  body . Lamb roast , 6 veg & mushroom gravy , followed by choc self saucing pudding & cream. It an`t no Jenny Craig devise . So be very careful as you expanding waste can be attributed to the Cobb in campers  :cup:

Yes quite true , also a rifle with a scope is marketed for hunting wildlife and not for killing humans , common sense is a great phase in hindsight. The point of my post was to educate because I am yet to meet the person who knows everything but have meet a lot who think they do  ;D

Digger, have you used your Cobb as a heater in the past?

One of the biggest dangers involving a cob is when you go camping with someone who has one and they can bore you to death telling you how good they are.

Never used it as a heater ,to busy cooking in it, but having been in the camper-hire business could write a book on what I have seen and what I thought was common sense . But always took people for what they were and that was first time campers with little or no experience . So no matter what they did always encouraged them to keep at it because camping is a great experience. And yes a Cobb Forum could be bigger than facebook ;D ;D

Im seriously suprised people are that silly. They are lucky they are both not dead.

As for the Cobb well each to their own, cant do anything in a cobb that you cant do in a simple camp oven that is about half the size.

Same as an unflued gas heater "Ensure Adequate Ventilation Whilst in Use"

At least an Ozpig has some atmosphere about it. Cobb as a heater? Nope, no atmosphere there.

Having renamed them the poofta oven in my circle of camping friends has had the desired effect of shutting them up :D

Besides, if its not a camp oven it must be a poofta oven........its in the rules :police:

N C K at least you had an idea which is a good start . Any body that ditches the Cobb should just go back to Maccas . Only 6 heat beads & roast lamb with 4 veg .No great pile of coals to try to tame , just even heat . Easy as & takes less space to transport .

Most boats with sleeping arrangements have carbon monoxide detectors but very few campers, I wonder why, as when closed up in the cold ventilation can be poor. How many have smoke detectors in their camper?

Not a lot as they would spend there time going off at the camp fire smoke . If it burns then the CFA will tell you when they turn up to do the report for the insurence
A boat is closed up a bit more than my CT which I dont think floats all that well  ;D
