And to think in that video he is on an enduro bike training for hattah which requires no real navigation. For dakar he is on a factory rally bike and having to do all the navigation at the same time. Especially harder this year after the gps rules were changed to make the waypoints harder to find and navigate between them not as straight forward. So imagine riding at that pace over a track you have not been able to pre sight, and having to navigate using a scrolling paper waypoint map and a none too accurate gps. The guys that do this at pace are absolutely nuts.

Unless you ride offroad, you cannot fathom how hard it is to have physical and mental toughness to do what these blokes do

watching them go down a straight doesn't look that impressive from the helicopter overhead shots, until they post up on screen the guys are doing 175 - 180kph  :o :o no wonder they get injured or even killed like they do in the race when they have an off

thus why they limited them to 450s... they were getting way too fast.
I think the final straw kicked in when the French team entered with FZR1000 engine in the bike... good for close to 300ks... and factory teams with 990s etc.
shame local bloke rode with few times back home Simon aint riding it anymore.. completed 7 Dakars - awesome effort  :cup: :cup:

MASSIVE penalties for Honda’s factory riders have swung the Dakar Rally back in KTM’s favour amid a rain-shortened Stage 5.

Joan Barreda was stripped of his overall lead before the day even started when he and all three of his teammates were handed one hour time penalties for refuelling outside an authorised zone on Stage 4.

The Australian charge is still being upheld by Todd Smith and Matt Hart following Price and Rod Faggotter’s retirements on Stage 4.

4. Juan Pedrero (Sherco TVS) +9m40s
5. Franco Caimi (Honda) +12m13s
15. Todd Smith (KTM) +29m28s

If you like Dakar and adventure riding, keep your eyes out for this

Fire up the BBQ and set aside 1 hour for 4 Saturday afternoons in mid January to early February 2017 to watch the 4 part mini series Beyond Siberia & Beyond Sahara; a documentary that follows 2 groups of bikers as they tackle some of the most remote riding destinations on earth.

7 Mate Viewing schedule

14th, 21st & 28th January at 3:30pm / 4th February Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide at 5pm and Perth at 3pm.

I second this. Mate of mine has entered 3 dakars and retired with broken bones twice, despite having several Southern African moto x and enduro championships under his belt.  He finally completed it in 2015 coming in 32nd. His description of the using the road book whilst at speed is nuts.

cancelled because a mudslide (10 metres high) cut the highway and killed 2 women and injured 5 other people, with 10000 people evacuated because of it also...legit reason to cancel I'd say

I'm guessing that most here are following the motocycles...

and yeh, I think they're bloody impressive too.

But geezus... I'm mind blown on the trucks. Something that damn big, going that fast...

scary.
