Great work, bargain

Now you only have to sort out the shuffle to get them all to fit. One trick I have is riders initial where the front wheel goes to keep them fitting the same, just have to sort the pedal arrangement

Thanks for the tip... I have a set of kids sized wheel loops hopefully arriving on Friday, so might give it a lash on the weekend...

Nice pickup :cup:

all the planets aligned for this one...

price was fantastic, compared to new + delivery to mackay
exactly the model of carrier i wanted (4x4x4)...
exactly the model of extended hitch i needed (for the pajero's rear spare clearance)...
swagger 'doc evil' lived about 20 minutes away from the gumtree seller AND was coming through mackay within a week or so...

really happy with it...

I bought a rower (Concept2) about a month ago with the view of getting my fitness and strength up for the coming MTB season. I've been spending 20 minutes on it every weekday morning before work, doing a combination of distance and intervals. First ride out solo today where I could push myself. I really felt a difference both from a strength and endurance perspective. I was less fatigued which enabled me to think about where I was riding and actually ride lines rather than just bombing through the trails. Rowing is addictive, there's lot of technique involved and you can really tell correct technique by the power you put out, you can see it in the data. Best of all it's non-impact so good for those of us getting older.

Back in ma younger days of racing, part of my gym work included time on the rowing machine.  ;) I used to hold the grips the same way as the handle bars when down in the drops.

N+1= happy dance. ;D

My latest addition to the stable, a spin bike. I also have a spin program of Russian spin splits to follow and there is a lot of hurt in that. :o

So my 20 year old Cannondale is about to get a new set of wheels... picked up a (free)set of 29er wheels from a Giant that should fit with a road bike tyre on... which is fine, because the Cannondale is used as my commuter bike so is set up with a rack etc, but was too slow compared to my road bike or 29er. Hoping that a re-wheel and tyre will make it go a bit quicker.

Things to sort:
-Cable disc brakes (I like my XT levers too much on that bike)
-an adapter for the front hub - the new wheel is a QR15 and I need to run a standard QR in it instead.

The Aldi $350 mountain bikes are back.

Does anyone who bought one a while back have any feedback to share, good or bad?

Still riding mine. The only thing I changed was the seat. Needed a bit more padding. Other than that it's been great. Be realistic with what you want the bike for and you'll be set.

Any name brand shop will sell you their base model adult bike with the same gruppo/fork (acera/suntour xcm) for $800+ eg Specialized Rock hopper - some minor changes but a variation on a theme.
Reid do a version for about $500 - assembled. My Reid XT29 is about stuffed now, I wore it out. I would grab one of the Aldi ones but I drained my play money on a fridge last week.

The Aldi 29er has better specs than the entry level Trek equivalent also and a damn site cheaper.

gels aren't usually for cramps. gel is carbs/caffeine and generally every 20 km if you are using them. Bananas, good mix (meta magnesium - 'endura' is a good one, I just use staminade these days) in your bidons, salt tabs if you are doing ironman length stuff. 60 odd should just need some decent training prior and mix unless it in granny gear up a mountain all day.

Make sure that you drink plenty of water the days leading up to it. You can't really hydrate properly on the day, if you're already  dehydrated. 😉

Looking for some advice from the bike gurus, I'm looking to upgrade my road bike to a flat bar.

Currently tossing up between a Trek FX 5 and an Apollo Trance 55...  Would welcome opinions, coming from an 18 year old Giant TCR2...

I'd love a Carbon frame, as the wife has a Trek Madone 5.2 Ultegra that I don't mind borrowing from time to time

I'd go the Trek
I'm leaning that way, but I can get a newly new second hand Apollo for half the price...

Why the Trek?  Aside from being carbon, Ultegra...  Oh wait

What about the Giant Fastroad? Not Ultegra, but I think a similar grade from the touring range:
https://www.giant-bicycles.com/au/fastroad-advanced-1-2019

Specialized seem to have a load of stuff I've not heard of, but I've been out of touch for a while on bikes tech.

I also keep getting drawn to the Toughroad, but I'm sort of making my old Cannondale into one of those

What sort of riding are you wanting to do?

mate if you want to get into the gels you need to start now.... You do not want anything familiar in your stomach when on a decent ride or you will get stomach cramps.

Mangnesium tablets in the weeks leading up to the ride are a good preventative measure but ease into the dosage cause they cause you to have no problems at all when on the toilet in the morning if you get my drift.

To be honest on the ride day of 60k a jam sandwich, can of coke and a lolly snake or 5 in a bag would do you. For example a ride of 60k my personal situation is I would just have a decent breakfast 2 hours before the ride and then not eat on the ride at all however each person is different for example i have been cycling for 8 years so your body becomes more efficient at conserving energy but my wife who has been on the bike for the same time needs to snack every hour on a decent ride

Jason English (world and Australian 24 hour solo champion) is a mate of mine.

Hi wife is a sports nutritionist.

He put me onto Vegemite sandwiches , cut into quarters, each piece wrapped in gladwrap with a simple twist on top. He usually rides with them in his jersey pockets.
