Way to go Cadel - and hats off to BMC for such great team support - he deserves it after some of the lemons he's been stuck with in the past.

That will do wonders for Australian cycling too, maybe finally get the respect it deserves.  :cheers:

Cadel's effort and win of the Tour will go down as one of the greatest moments in Australian Sport, his overall results in Road Cycling Racing and Mountain bike Racing can definitely be put on the same level as Oppenheimer.
He has won a World Championship of Road Racing, an Mountain Bike World Championship and now the greatest and most prestigious road race in cycling, Le Tour, not many blokes has pulled that off, not even Amstrong.
I wonder if he will front up to the London Olympics and give that a crack as well, he has come 8th in his last effort.

Maybe I'm just a sentimental old bugger, but sitting in Perth last night watching one of THE great moments of Australian sporting history, I swear I could feel the energy being projected across the country towards France as we all willed him on to victory. It flowed into his legs and didn't he repay us in style!!
Order of Australia for a top Aussie, please Julia.

What a moment in Aussie sporting history!  I jumped up and applauded him like he was standing in front of me.  Also not afraid to say I had a tear when he showed the emotion of years of effort and the fruition of all those klm's.  What a feeling!

Incredibly gutsy effort I do not think I even comprehend the pain and effort those riders go through.

I found it a little bit tense as he negotiated a couple of tighter bends in the time trial, he was really on the edge. Now it is over it is easy to look back and see how a small incident eg a fall, or mechanical problem could have changed the outcome.

Well deserved.

The best that I've seen him ride. The team he had around him may not have been the strongest but at least they worked for/with him and not against! :cup:

Awesome outcome - well done Cadel.

Truely deserved! 

It was obvious from Stage 1 that his team was there for him - they were the most prominant up the front of the peloton on all the flat stages - to avoid crashes like Contador got involved in.

I must say that I thought the Shleck brothers were extremely humble in their defeat saying that they got beaten fair and square by the better rider - my opinion of them has risen remarkably.  I also noted that Andy mentioned that he is happier about coming second this year than last year, and this year it was on just terms.
