Never owned an Auto. I have lived remote since 95 so there has never been a need for one. Just slow down to re-fuel. I agree engine braking is great and gives you control. My old Hilux has 108k on it and still has about 50% of original brakes left, while the Prado has 60k with 80%.

One place we lived for almost 10 years, we would drive onto the main highway and then have a choice of east for 675km before gear change or west with 315km gear change followed by 690km before the next one.

Manual for me too, unfortunately our next car will have to be an auto, they don't give you that option anymore after 2010 >:(

But after driving the new beast for about 400Ks that we will be getting in November on the weekend, I'm more than happy with how it drives :cup:

Thats a great point about MySwag stubbie coolers on the gear stick , Thats anothert good reason to drive a manual 2 sticks , 1 for SWOMBO as well

Yeah, but how many clutches have you put through it???  ;D ;D "Easier to replace brake pads than clutches", as my old driving instructor used to say.  ;D

Pathfinder is an auto (they all were), and I love it. Lets me concentrate on pointing the car, and I trust the box now to be reasonably good at picking the right gear (or staying locked in the gear I want). It's true, as someone has already said, it takes some of the "challenge" away, but hey - I'm happy for that! Driving down the beach I don't like being challenged - I like just chilling out and letting the car do the work for me!

Baby Impreza is a manual though, and it's a fun thing. All my "quick" cars have been manuals, and they're fun to work. But for a round-town, do-it-all bus, the auto's are just too lazy...  ;D As for the bikes, well, surprisingly they've been sequential shift manuals too - none of this new-fangled CVT/scooter gearbox for me!
