Composite fibreglass panels
« on: June 01, 2011, 07:54:30 AM »
Hi,
We manufacture composite fibreglass panels for building caravans and motorhomes. They can also be used for camper trailers. The pics are of one i built for myself.

Hi All,
I've started construction of a poptop crossover camper for myself or production if anyone is interested. Happy to supply panels as a kit to anyone who wants to build their own. Composite panels will all be cnc cut for easy assembly. I've only done work on chassis at the moment. It is all aluminium but could be done easier and cheaper in steel for those wanting to build their own chassis.
Specs for my camper are as follows,
Body size closed for towing is 4600mmx1970mmx2050mm total height from ground,
Cruisemaster independent suspension, double shock,
Double bed,
Couch converting to double bunks,
Internal shower toilet,
Small internal cooker and bench space,
Outdoor kitchen and fridge.
large awning converting to annex
I'll continue posting pics as it progresses.

regards
Shaun

Shaun,
Do you have any details of construction using the fiberglass panels?  Corner attachments, reinforcing, hinge attachments, seals, etc?  Do you mount over a frame or would it be its own structure?
Your help is appreicated.
Thanks

Hi,
No frame is needed. When all glued together it becomes self supporting. Outer edges are trimmed with aluminium extrusions. Inner seams can be fibreglassed together With regards to hatches ad doors they normally consist of an inner and outer frame and hinge off each other. If i need to hinge off the panels i glue on an aluminium tapping plate and hinge off that. Some people just bolt through the panel.
regards
Shaun

I would really like to see some build details from your other camper.  How did you secure the box to the frame, glue or mechanical fasteners?  Is there any reinforcing on the top?  Do you think the panels would support a more traditional design HF camper (flip back)?  Did you glue the trims?  How well does this system handle vibrations and flex?
Thanks again.

Really like the look of your first camper, checked out all the pics on your site and it is very similar to a concept that I am throwing around in my head at the moment except I was going standard steel and alloy plate type build.

What is supporting the weight of the jerry can, tyre and when folded down and in use, the stairs?  It that section all steel reinforced or does the glass panel support all that weight?  I would have throught it would flex, crack and fall apart over corregations without some type of steel structure holding all the weight?
