Thanks to jkohn for offering his help in organising this meet.
The meet will be on private property fires will be allowed pets under control will be allowed.
We now need some idea of the number of people attending so that we can look at the area and do some preliminary organising.
-
rodeo2002, try sending a PM to one of the moderators, and see if they can move this meet to the "Child Board" at the top of the "Trips, Tracks, Touring and Reports" section of the forum. You can then open another sub-thread maybe labled something like "2011 Myswag National Meet Attendees".
EDIT:- sorry didn't see jkohn's post above.

Hi folks,
Haven't introduced myself in the main section yet but will do soon. Hoping to join the Tambo Club this weekend
Just as an idea, Maybe on of the Mods could make this thread a sticky, as i thinks there will be a lot of us keeping a good eye out for more details.
Cheers,
Cam

only 23 hours drive... we'll be watching this one.

I'm getting there... ;D
Plus only Bigjules and I can make the new board...
-
hmm looking on the map, its not that far to the clare or down to the hills. mmmm wine.
-
4th of October is the Long Weekend for NSW so that works well.
For Sydney siders wanting to take a 4 day weekend, I can lead a 'back way' there and back - Ideally doing as much off the black top as possible of course...
Off the top of my head - Leaving Thursday afternoon camping Thursday night at Borenore Caves (just past Orange) Friday night camping Mungo NP, Sat at the meet, Sunday night Williandra NP, returning Monday evening - or something along these lines anyways!
-
Trying to organise this October let alone 2011 but it sounds like a great idea and we will pencil it in.
Danbri your trip route sounds interesting but we might take a few more days to explore on the way, never been down that neck of the woods.
regards
Bruce and Jenni
-
i think this sounds like fun holly and i will be there.
-
have to get over this year but will keep an eye on this thread ;D ;D
-
Registering my interest. ;D
-
Registering my interest as well with or without the wife...lol.....don't tell her
-
We also will put our name down
-
We are definite possibles ;D . Sounds like a great idea.
Cheers,
Richard
-
We would also like to run the campo flag up the flag pole for this event. Not to mention the Qld flag too ;D
Have quite a few big commitments to get through this year and early next year, but this may be the motivation for a bigger trip around this one to include perhaps a round trip to take in the rock and a bit of corner country while getting to this meet and back.... >:D
Keeping watch 8)
Cheers,

I've done Myswag in Qld and Myswag in NSW so why not Myswag in SA!
So I'm keen. I havn't looked at a map yet but I would say from here I would need to come down via birdsville and a trip out to big red before crossing into SA. So maybe some other qlders might be keen to tag along on this journey south...
-
I will be keeping my eyes on this thread... sounds like we may be able to attend... just need to look at a map, to work out how I will get from Newman, WA to Jamieson SA....

This is a great response and people are looking at making a trip out of it.
Here is a map to give everyone an idea of where Jamestown is.

this may be better to view. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Jamestown+south+australia&sll=46.910544,-98.708436&sspn=0.085371,0.255775&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Jamestown+South+Australia,+Australia&z=11

I can drive to broken hill comfortably in a big day. I think i could make it there in one stint too.
Darren
-
I think I will try to get over for this one....good excuse to book in a week ( or two ) of holidays and missed seeing Mungo last time we were over at the Flinders !!
-
I think we will be having a few weeks off and wander down through Cowra, Hay, Mildura (check out Mungo), Renmark then Jamestown. On the way home the Coorong, Mt Gambier, Great Ocean rd, Mt Eliza, Bairnsdale, Jindabyne and home. :cup: Can't wait. ;D
-
I think the forum might be pretty quiet when this is on!!!

I start my 3 months long service leave around the end of September 2011 ;D ... Could be a definite possibility that we (me, the wife and 2 rug rats) will be in the area for part of the time as we plan on heading across the nullabor. We haven't made any real plans yet so I will keep an eye on this thread. It would be good to meet a few people.
UPDATE: It's not going to happen ... sorry folks, you don't get to meet me just yet!
-
If we decide to do it maybe others from QLD from NQ and CQ could met up with us around our area to travel down.
-
were interested - maybe a good excuse to make it to the flinders ranges beforehand.
-
The Minister for war has decide that Barnray's are in the running as well. B

DEFINITE DATES:
After taking into consideration each states school and public holidays it had been decided that the 2011 MySwag National Meet will be held from Friday 30th Sept - Tuesday 4th October, 2011.
We have set these dates early to give people ample time to work their schedules, holidays, and travelling routes around them.
This has also been posted under it's own thread.
Thankyou.
-
I'm keen to take the boys on a road trip, but I'll have to look at work schedule closer to the date.
Steve
-
Sounds great, looks like I'll be giving Bathurst a miss next year, maybe this group will go to bed a little earlier than the mob at Bathurst, but then again maybe not
-
:D Hey, I was vaguely thinking about where to celebrate my 68th birthday and I feel this could be the go! Pencil me in.
Cheers, Tony
-
I'm hoping to make it as well!
-
I'll be on extended long service leave prior to retiring by then. Beats mowing my kids lawns so the wife/navigator :cup: and I will be there.

-
We will be fairly definite starters, only a few hours for us.
-
hhhhmmmm. only 1,337km from my place, so I'll but my hand up for this, looking fro a reason to do a little more exploring and around Mildura and in SA.
-
If we time it right - we could be on our way back from the Kimberley / Yulara trip ....
Sounds like a plan !! Put us 2 down for a probable maybe ,,,LOL
Cheers
Steve
-
At this stage put us down for 2 for the 'gathering' in SA.

Mate just look back through trip reports in trip section, there's plenty, most recent for NSW being Knoritt Flat in May, think there may have been one since also
-
Put us on your list for the National Meet. We will be able to explore areas further afield that this time we may not be able to visit due to wet weather. Gorgeous Australian country for the meet!
Cheers,
-
We would definately be interested in doing this trip. It would be good to be able to travel some or all of the way with other campers. Unfortunately for us none of our friends are into camping so all our trips will be just us. Look forward to getting more info on this

Good thinking Al.....I was thinking of doing Mungo and the Flinders again.....but always open to suggestions....
We were thinking about trying to incorporate Flinders into a round trip down that way also.

-
We are from Alice Springs and will have completed a 6 month trip in June (our first ever trip in our new CT) and i cant think of anything better than getting back out on the road and meeting fellow myswag members at this meet. Sounds awesome, me, significant other and 2 kids will definantly be there, will keep eyes open for details, just have to get our first trip out of the way first.
-
I'd love to be there just need to organise a couple of things
1. Be in Australia not South Africa
2. Get time off work
3. Buy camper trailer
4. Convince SWMBO that its a good idea (this is the easy task)
-
Jamestown is not far from Alice. Sort out shifts and we are there.
Ross and Shirley
-
It is ONLY 2554 clicks away so I will give it a miss.
-
Oh, that's just weak. EVERYWHERE's that far when you live in the wild west! ;D
Cam (ex-Perth resident...)

It looks as though we will be going and would also like to do mungo and the flinders ranges. I am on leave from 0600 / 9th September and would be looking at leaving Nelson Bay on Saturday 10th.

Lindsay, I will also be doing Mungo & Flinders....and thinking of having 3 weeks off work....but before I book them in, was waiting to see what dates others are considering.....if there is still others wanting to do the same itinery..
As the long weekend is the 3rd of October, I would use the rest of that week to wander home....which means I would be leaving home on the 17th of September ( unless I got another week off ??? )
I'll see how things pan out in the next month or so, but I need to book leave soon ( in case some bar**ard beats me to it !!)
-
Bugger, just saw this thread and thought great.
Except the dates clash with www.campertrailers.org national meet ( which I am going to )
Oh well :( next year......
-
I think I might head over to this meet up. It will depend on a few things at the time but it sounds like it good be a good weekend ;D
Rich
-
Would have loved to have made this but we are taking 2 Months to do the Cape 2011. Keep in mind we live in Broome so just getting to the East Coast will take us a week and 3K in fuel...or something ridiculous.. :'(.
-
Will check the work roster and see how we go :cup:
 Cracka
-
Sounds great 8) and it would be great to put some faces to the names and meet some my swag members  then after the 4th we could slip across to the Flinders for a while and make the most of the school holidays. :cup:
-
I just registered see you there

Nice to see Bairnsdale on your itinerary - our home town!
Looks like SWMBO and I will just make it. Our "outback adventure" was due to leave Bairnsdale on 30th Sept, so we should be able to get there for a couple of nights at least. Should be a good way to kick off our trip, before heading north into the fun stuff.
Anyone accepting bribes to reserve a good spot? ;D
Cheers,
Cam

We passed through Bairnsdale twice over the new year break on the way to Briagolong and on the way to Cann Valley on the way home. Lovely part of Vic.
Looking forward to meeting up in Jamestown Wilmington.
-
Everybody's got to have a plan, and our plan is to be there.
We are going to make a 4 week trip of it, Come across towards Broken Hill, head down the Jamestown. After head down to Adelaide, catch up with a mate that we have been promising to visit for years then head back up the East coast, maybe or up the center of Vic/NSW back home. (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-think004.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php) Who knows.
-
Hairs that plan of your re trip sounds as though its locked in to cold / hot dusty mud
Not really clear but its a plan & thats a start
-
Yep, It does ;D
But mate, If ya don't have a plan ya screwed, ya gotta have something to aim for besides, it sound like a good place to have the odd ale.

Hairs,
In Oct. last year we had a similar trip to the one you have planned, but in reverse to camdyson through Hay etc.
Mungo National Park is well worth the visit as it`s such an unusual place and the camping area is a good one.
We came from Mungo to Balranald, road was great then and had lunch at Yanga N.P. near Balranald.
It`s a new N.P with plenty of sites on the river, but it seemed a bit overgrown.
Enjoy planning your trip and have a great one.

We were there a couple of weeks after it opened, and apart from having to wait for the road in to dry out after approx 2mm of rain during the night ( black soil ) we loved it...nice and isolated...( couple of widow maker trees dropping during the night !! ) but a endless supply of firewood ,new dunnies, solar operated lights as well...lot of history with the shearing sheds close by ( Yanga was one of the biggest sheep runs in the country ..apparently )
-
Hi Gronk,
Did you visit Yanga Homestead as well? It`s a few klms. further up the hwy and well worth visiting.
When we were there in oct 2010 it was the first time in 10 years there had been any water in the lake
surrounding it and it was full.
The homestead is only open certain hours but there is another building with lots of historical documents etc.
A local group look after the gardens and are restoring them to their original state.
-
We have registered, the roster looks good, looking forward to meeting a few of the charachters from on here!!!
 Cracka

No, as we were just passing thru, we didn't do a lot of checking of the surrounding area, but the history suggests it would be a place to go back to one day !!

Just like the rest of us, we are allowed to anything they let us.
The sooner we come to terms with this, well, life gets easier. Don't kid yaself mate.
Happy days,

I'd be happy to write an article on this, two even; one in the lead up and another detailing what a great event it is sure to be.
-
I booked a powered site. Makes heating all those bottles for the kids eaiser and cooling mine eaiser.

Is this camper trailer only or can tenters be included?
We go through Wilimington all the time, it is a sleepy little town that comes to life when the Rodeo comes to town, I think the rodeo was held in late Jan so there should not be too many people there.
It is an easy drive for us to get there from Alice.
-
All welcome Mav, did you sell your Coromal?
-
All welcome Mav, did you sell your Coromal?
Yes, we were not using it as I was constantly being either rostered to work on public holidays or I was on call-in standby for them so could not leave town. Figured we may as well sell it then let it sit idle in the yard. I am now in a position that runs a 4 on 4 of shift roster so I get more time to go camping. The other problem is that a lot of the camping areas around the centre are now being poled off so it is hard to get a camper into a camping spot, it is better to use a tent for them.
-
G'day all,
Have been back working full time but drop into the site every now and then to see whats happening. The national meet sounds great and only a few, maybe four, days away from the Top End. The CT has been packed away from last November so it needs a good run, even now we can't get out into the bush, still too much water around. You can put Jude and I down for a probable definate maybe.
The Puffin

After finally getting out camping last week for the first time since going to Cape York last year! We are getting excited about this trip! I have emailed my booking... Going UNPOWERED. >:D

We are planning to come along. We just got back from a weekend camping near St Arnaud in Vic. We've got an old jayswan, and are gonna upgrade. On the drive home we had a nice long chat about what we want in our next camper. Prior to this weekend we were dead set on a new Jayco Swan outback, but now we are considering other camper options, given our list of 'wants'.
We are keen to attend the annual meet in Sept and see the vast variety of campers out there, and talk to a lot of people about their likes and dislikes. We'll then go to the Sandown camping show and make a purchase - or wait till next years Caulfield show.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Sept!

We have driven past Beautiful Valley CP 4 times in the past month, we always take this route when we travel to Newcastle from Alice Springs and back. I have clocked up 12000 kms in the past 4 weeks.
I always liked the look of the CP but have never stayed there, unfortunately I don't think we can make it to this event due to a lack of leave, I will be in Port Augusta tomorrow on my way to Adelaide but I will be back in Alice on Saturday. I am overnighting tonight in Coober Pedy.

My plans are changing.
Turns out our new baby does not like to travel. At. All. So the plan of taking the family on a gentle stroll down, checking out the sites along the way will have to be altered.
I am deadset keen, so my options are:
- fly over, rent a car and swag it
- drive over on my own, or with the oldest daughter, but still a rush trip
- et someone with a company vehicle to "get their k's up"

Are you going to this Lindsay? We are going to be in the Wilmington area on the 1st of October as we are relocating to canberra and leaving Alice either on the 30th of September or the 1st of October. We are not sure yet if we will go via the Hay Plain or via Broken Hill. We will keep an eye out for all the myswagers and listen in on the UHF too

Hi Paul - no we are not going to the myswag meet, although we will be staying in the Barossa for a few days before going up to the Flinders then Lake Eyre and the Birdsville track. We were originally going to go, but have since decided that with all the water that is in Lake Eyre and the associated bird life etc etc that goes with it, it was to good an event to miss out on and who knows when it will happen again. We had to make a decision to go to either lake Eyre or the MySwag meet. Lake Eyre won!

For those like myself travelling up from Melbourne for the meet,
on the Friday I will cross from Vic into SA, move watch back half an hour.
Saturday with daylight savings move watch forward 1 hour.
Worse than International travel.

Hi
Catching the ferry on 27th to Melbourne then onto Red Cliffs / Mildura for the night (600km)
leave early am for Waikerie (2.5hrs) re shopping at Woolies etc then onto Peterborough (2hrs)
fuel stop arriving late afternoon at camp site.

Although we would dearly love to attend I am afraid that it just would not be feasible for us as the car and trailer will be packed to the gunwales with everything we will need for the next few weeks in Canberra so there is no room for a tent or camping gear. We will listen in on the UHF for any voice traffic as we pass through on our way to Canberra.

The owners are obviously unaware of the MySwag Meet, otherwise they wouldve waited another two weeks before closing down.
Seriously though, it seems like it is just another sign of the times as to how tough it is getting to make a living out from the major capitals.

Well I reckon that most people would do their shopping in Port Augusta as it is not that far away. I am always amazed at how the towns between Wilmington and Peterborough survive but I guess the local farmers keep the towns afloat. Orroroo is a nice little town and always presents itself as a clean place. There are a couple of popular pubs in the main street.

You're right Mav - the reason they gave was the competition from the Pt Augusta Supermarkets.
As mentioned - they could have delayed it a couple of weeks!!

May drop in over the weekend, we were going to Arkaroola, but all the people we were going with have pulled out now, so maybe melrose, with a visit to wilmington to meet a few faces.
This will be the last trip with the Cruiser for a while as the company has been nice enough to give me a Hilux to use, so my big toy can get parked up in the shed till I need her again.

We will be passing through Wilmington, Orroroo and Peterborough on our way to Broken Hill for the night on Saturday so we will keep our ears open for any chatter from the Myswaggers at the meet. We are coming from Coober Pedy so we should be passing through Wilmington around midday on Saturday.
