I'm sitting here at home and wishing I was out in the bush somewhere sitting in front of a campfire
sipping on a nice Port.

Does anyone have a special Port they like to take camping with them?

Reminds me of an old fisherman I had drinks with. Towards the end of our enjoyable evening [drinking] he brought out his flagon of port. I see there is no label on your nice port mate? I asked. We buy in BULK was his answer. Bulk? Do you buy in 20 Lt. lots? No mate me and me mate go 1/2's in a 44gal. drum.

yes, I have a favourite...golden oak tawny port, left resting in an oak barrel from the Barossa valley! Very nice...only problem is it's on my friends yacht :'( :'(

Here are a few:
Seppeltsfield No. 6 Tokay, No. 7 Tawny, No. 8 Muscat
Morris Black Label Tawny & Black Label Liquer Muscat
Bethany Old Quarry Tawny

The Morris Classic Range is also good, but I prefer the Black Label.

My favourite,

The cheapest Tawny on the market with a splash of Brandy and Khalua to taste, stand in a wooden cask for a day, and attack.

In fact, I think I'll have one now.

Seppeltsfield Solero DP63 Grand Muscat and the DP57 Grand Tokay.

Galway Pipe was nicer when it was made at Yalumba. They don't do any fortified wines anymore, sold the lot. Who remember's 4 Crown. I use to buy this in 20 litre containers many years ago when I worked there.

I used to work for Southcorp before the Foster's take-over.

Boy I miss my wine allowance, sob.

I bought a bottle of Galway Pipe 22 years ago when my oldest was born. Still sitting in the pantry unopened with a couple of bottle of Para Port. One day

I bought a Port Liquer when my first son was born and can't remember the name.
Would like to find it again. Some every nice sounding ones here.

Might take a trip to Bottle Shop today and see if I can find some of them.

My grandfather bought and cellared a port of my vintage with the intention I drink it at my 21st. I've never been a port drinker, so asked mum to do the honours. Maybe I should do the same for our kids....I might be a port drinker in the next 20 years

There used to a winery in the main drag of Tanunda in the Barossa that specialized in nothing but fortified wines. My wife and I and some friends dropped in there many years ago. They had Chardonnay's, Shiraz, cab savignon fortifieds, you name it. They are falling out of favour in today's market in preference to table wines.

Grant Burge still has a fortified wine store in Tanunda, but I'm not sure it is the same one. I just checked out their web site, it's the same building, so may be the same.

Guess I'll just have to visit them again and report back here with some recommendations.

I bought a small keg made out of old staves from the monster kegs discarded by the Bundaberg Rum company way back in 1986. Played around with different ideas in the early days but for the last 20 years or so I have standardized on Morris cask port though this keg. After it sits in the cask for a week or so, it is right up there with Galway Pipe and the bottle of Para sitting in my cupboard.

As far as camping goes, we were staying at a park in Charleville and I had a bit of a camp oven cook up around the communal fire. Cooked an upside down pudding and shared it round and swapped pudding for port which was a pretty good deal I thought.

Now you guys have just given me an idea seeing we are heading off for a few weeks soon. I think I'll drain the keg before I go! If I refill it, it will have plenty of time to mature before we get back so I'll see you on the tracks!

I like any though in my aging years tend to go for Tokay's rather than ports although a fine muscat is nice too. Drinking Black Noble by De Bortoli atm and is very pleasant. One of the nicest ports I can remember was a white port from the Roma vineyards at, you guessed it, Roma Qld. Don't scoff as they win quite a few awards for their fortifieds. It's not listed on their website so not sure what the go is there. Penfolds Grandfather is very nice too but out of my price range now.
