Are Maxtrax still the best or are there better options

Looking to buy either maxtrax or if people have used a similar product would be keen to hear what you have.

I have a pair of Treds, they certainly work well, we didnt have a winch just a pair of Treds and some redneck ingenuity.

I have MAXTRAX......only used once to help another car.

If you compare MAXTRAX and the others side by side there is a big difference in weight construction.

After comparing the others that arrived on the scene we'll offer MAXTRAX I'll be sticking with them.

Oh I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr MAXTRAX post purchase. Nice guy.

I have the new tred pro's.  Having looked at most of them these are the best of the bunch.  Solid as, and has replaceable lugs so that the most commonly damaged part of the tracks can be cheaply and easily replaced...

I was a little bit late to the party with their Kickstarter campaign so missed out on the deals there, they seem the best (and most expensive) from what I have seen. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/evolvenpd/tred-pro-total-recovery-and-extraction-device-for

I am seriously considering giving these ones from eBay ($80 with a code) a go, sure the Tred pro's are better, but are they 4x better

I'm related via marriage to the inventor of Maxtrax, but bought mine before I knew that...

I've not used them in anger as yet, never had the need - we got them for our Fraser trip, and they stayed in the back of the ute all the time we were there...

Thats all I have used for 30 years is 75 x 50 x 4mm gal mesh cut to size they work out to be around $5 each. I carry 10 of them on the roof rack take up as room as one MT, Craig

Used em about 10 times in 10 meters once to get out of some really soft sand

Mark, only becuase you asked  :D

I purchased a cheaper set of recovery boards.  Copies of the Maxtrax.  First time I used them in anger, I snapped one in half and broke a corner off another.  But I was loaded to the max, and towing, and it was a tough recovery.  Good me out of the poo but they were pretty much stuffed and unusable afterwards.

Choose the longer, standard TREDs (the Pros were not on the market then) as replacements.  They come up on good discounts every so often at Super Cheap and Annaconda.  Have carried them for thousands of kilometers but only used them once in anger.  In the mud, uphill and again towing.  Forward progress was a TRED length, and not much further, each time.  After repositioning them about 10 times, we were out of trouble.  No lugs lost and performed brilliantly.  Very happy.

Are they better than Maxtrax, no idea.  But they are way, way better than the cheap copies.

Just remember, when using recovery tracks, low range, low gear and minimal wheel spin is best.

Just because no-one else has mentioned them.. and since they are now unobtainable, must be worth their weight in gold..

I've got 4 of the green ones sold by BigJules a couple of years ago. Used them 100s of times to get others out of sand, mud, clay, gunk, you name it.. they're beginning to show it ( how many times do I have to say don't spin your bloody wheels on my tracks you idiot !! ), but still the first thing to go on the roofrack whenever we're heading out. Were they still being offered, I'd buy them again without question.. otherwise.. maxtrax build quality is above all the others, my regular 4wd buddy has a pair, and they've taken a hammering from his kids, and still going strong.

Hey Mark...
Ive been lucky enough to used both Tred and Maxtrax when I was doing tours and driver training.......to me both pretty darn good. I ended up buying a set of black Tred to mount on my camper only for the reason that the length fitted the designated spot

I've got 2sets of rescue buddies got them from opposite lock look just like maxtrax  only 1/2 the price  ,have used them in sand and work fine. Like all of these recovery boards if used properly they will last a life time

Did you lock ya hubs in and select 4WD. It was only a 1% gradient hill. >:D

I have had cheap ones for a few years. Nowhere near as solid (half the weight too) but work great in the sand and ok in the mud. One has cracked as I tried to use it as a bridge over a steep jump up but still got me through. They are the main go to, snatch strap has moved down the list.

If you can afford them Maxtrax are the better option.

yea had a touch and play with a few and I see what your talkin about in quality/weight etc Also some come singular not pair... nice catcha..
