Sold our 82 Jayco Swan today.
A young family, local
We have owned it since early 09, 14 years of great memories, some 16K km's.
All the kids have left home, living their dreams, no need for it.
We have a hard floor rear pull over that works great for us now. Later next week we will pack it up, load the Criuser, and spend a week on the road.
No time frame, no plan.

So here's a trivia question for those of you in NSW, but anybody else can play if they wish!

"Are there more roads in the city or in the bush? More precisely: is the total length of roads in all the cities and towns more or less than the total length of all the roads that run between the cities and towns?"

& then

"By how much?" (5x, 10x, 100x ...)

Answers tomorrow! ;D

Answers tomorrow! ;D

I left it a bit longer in case of more entries, but none :'(

But anyway, the envelope please!

(Drum roll!)

& the winner is ... Country by 4x! :-)

Yes, of course, the figures are a bit rubbery in some ways & based on arbitrary decisions on where town stops & so on, but the actual numbers that the bloke came up with are:

City roads in NSW = 40,721k

Country roads = 168,775k!

Here's the full article to have a read of: https://little-maps.com/2023/01/09/city-or-the-bush-where-are-the-most-roads/ (https://little-maps.com/2023/01/09/city-or-the-bush-where-are-the-most-roads/)

So sorry, Pottsy, you missed out!

So young Jack has screwed his rear dif.
Breather got ripped off, sucked a bucket load of dirty water.
To his credit, only using the Gregory's manual we bought him when he first got it, he has pulled it out, replaced a heap of stuff, a good mate is checking it over.
Saturday morning, it'll get put back together.
Hasn't asked for coin,
Hasn't asked for help.
But he didn't ask to do it in front of the shed ;)

Just been told, Jack's moving back home, :O
Yeah I know, you warned me,
they Always Come back.
On a positive, he's looking at a FIFO apprenticeship, taking over his time.
Seriously, any kid these days that says they can't get work, they are not applying themselves.
Many of Jack's mates, have taken the leap and now are enjoying good coin, improving their work skills & enjoying life.
I guess no different to when I was 18, bouncing from one job to another.

Listening to the rain pouring down last night & the storm flashing & banging, while reading BoM:

75% chance of up to 0mm

50% chance of up to 0mm

25% chance of up to .5mm

Rain since 9AM: 16.2mm ...

Finished up with 34.25mm, which made the pool much happier ;D

South of Adelaide was the magic mile, every conceivable brand of petrol station including Neptune, at the start of the mile was Neptune Garden complete with Neptunes statue, we had our wedding photos taken there on a 42degree day 41 years ago.

We had an earthmoving business in Leichhardt (Ipswich). It was also a Neptune fuel depot. It was a trip in the Ford Popular on Saturday mornings with the old man to go and get petrol for the week. Always a chance for an ice cream.

He said everyone farts 1.5 litres a day.
It might not be a proven method for dropping the kilos, but Aussie celebrity scientist Dr Karl Kruszelnicki has revealed how much weight you can lose from farting.

The students at the Acacia Ridge TAFE make them sometimes they sell them off.  7x5 tippers.  We had one that was about 30yrs old and still going strong.  I think I have plans somewhere...

I bought an 8x5 override mechanical braked box trailer with 900mm high sides, jockey wheel, rego and spare tyre from century trailers in west Brisbane for 3k

Pretty sure that they come out of the same Chinese factory.

We get the same trailers over here, they come in in parts and get assembled here
They put local hitches and wiring on them so the unwary think they’re made here ??? ???

As I had posted in the Webber thread, we bought a Baby Q,
I also purchased a pack of foil skins the go under the burner, about $45 for 7? Skins.
Love them, they keep under the grills clean.
I tagged them in a post, saying how happy I was, well they sent me another bunch of skins.
Ya gotta be happy with that :)
If ya unsure what they are.

The Lawrence Rodeo Committee,
We finally got to hold a meeting after our Rodeo just before New Years.
After two years of not being able to host it, it was a huge success.
Record entries(competitors), a big crowd even tho it rained, we are able to giving back to the community and other clubs that helped on the day,  a total of $25 000.00.

Without each one of these groups giving of their time, it wouldn't happen.
I'll get a list of these soon.
Well done

Had an e-mail come through from one of the camping mobs.

One of things it mentioned was about where to camp "near Brisbane" (although I don't know why you'd want to ??? >:D)

https://www.letsgocaravanandcamping.com.au/news/where-to-camp-near-brisbane/ (https://www.letsgocaravanandcamping.com.au/news/where-to-camp-near-brisbane/)

OK, a caravan park only ~10 minutes out of the city, sure

Big 4 Caloundra & Gold Coast ??? Both an hour away so not really "near" ???

Lake Somerset ??? - 2 hours & 120k ::)

Borumba Deer Park, back of the Sunshine Coast :-\ - 2.5 hours / 200k :o

& best of all ...

Hervey Bay!!!  :o ::)

4 hours & 300k away is not what I would call "near" to Brisbane! ???

we have different opinions on whats 'close'..

120klms is nothing
1 hours I'd call back yard
3 hours is usual to get to most camps round here.
... peak hour or getting out of city can be 1-2 hours on its own LOL

Reading this article about the weather at Easter:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-07/australia-easter-weather-forecast-history-archives/102187556 (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-04-07/australia-easter-weather-forecast-history-archives/102187556)

& now for a truly Earth-shattering bit of info ...

Easter is a moveable feast, occurring on different dates each year. It's observed on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25, so there really isn't such a thing as typical Easter weather.

But wait for it ...

But there is evidence of it being hotter the earlier it comes in autumn

Remember folks, you heard it here first - the closer it gets to winter, the higher the chance of the weather getting cooler! ::)

Who woulda thunk it ??? ;D

This made me smile. When we were planning our wedding way back (28 years ago) i had the clever idea that let's have it on Easter Saturday so people could travel etc. The wife to be thought this was a great idea but what I didn't tell her at the time it was my sneaky way so that I would never forget the anniversary (how could I if on Easter Saturday). Wasn't until the following year that I came to the realisation that Easter doesn't fall on the same date and don't think it has ever since  ;D

I did eventually admit to the boss that I had an ulterior motive and she just rolled her eyes (could see the word d**khead in her face) and we still laugh about it every Easter Saturday.

Hi,
I tested the height bar one quiet wet night with permission of the Hobart City Council Carpark staff.
I was about 75 mm over height at the chained height bar, (so set off loud alarm bells) and could manoeuvre through most of the parking spaces (very very slowly).
The tradie bar touched at a couple of places but I only wanted to see if it was doable. I would leave the bar off for an actual park with traffic.
Cheers

I was 2 cars back driving into the local shops undercover carpark. The lead car had two road bikes on the roof and I can remember it going in slow motion and thinking that won’t fit. Proceeded to crunch the bikes, tear the roof bars off and fold into the back window smashing it in the process. Reckon it was 2 minute noodles for dinner for a few months after that.

I can be thankful that the height bar was on chains, and not fixed solidly.

My youngest has been selected to represent Tasmania in the National U16 Indoor Cricket Titles in Ipswitch at the end of June. He has put the effort in to make it.
He is 14 but already 6'2" with a size 14 foot and towers above most of his mates.
The driving from one of the state to the other ever other weekend has now been worthwhile.

Both. Flights are covered but we cover the accommodation.

Couldn't say no as I took the older one to Alice Springs last year for two rounds of the national BMX series.

Great movie (the original - wish I could find it online)

It's been 80 years since one of the most daring escapades of WWII, when Britain's Royal Air Force unleashed a secret weapon - the "bouncing bomb" on German dams.

Thirteen Australian airmen were part of Bomber Command's 617 squadron, involved in the Dambusters Raid on the nights of May 16 and 17, 1943, dropping the new bombs on dams in Germany's industrial heartland.

The new weapons were depth charges that could bounce along the water's surface before sinking and exploding.

Of the 19 Lancasters that joined the dangerous low-flying mission, eight were lost with 53 aircrew killed.

The squadron soon became famous as the Dambusters, with the ingenuity and courage involved in the operation documented in a 1955 film.

Veterans Affairs Minister Matt Keogh paid tribute to their bravery, saying Australian pilots Harold 'Mick' Martin and Jack Leggo were knighted for their part in the raid.

"The courage and skill these men showed while flying heavy bombers at an altitude of just 18 metres while maintaining speeds of 370 km per hour is truly remarkable, he said.

Weather was perfect for a trip with a couple of 4wd Club members to attend to cleaning up around a couple of Huts, that club helps to maintain.
Ramornie Rd is in really poor condition, a slow trip at times, we haven't been out there since just after Christmas.
Our progress was stopped by about 100 meters of trees down, too big a job for a couple of us with saws, that's  NPWS job.

Hi... Sorry Austastar.. I appeared to post me reply as quoted in your posting.. Don't know what I did wrong.. Meant to add my bit in answer to yours..

So,,, Yep, young and stupid.. Just left the NAFFI club.. Picked up these two great looking chicks.. Said they would take us back to their place in Bougis street.. Got stopped by two Red Caps and thrown in the back of their Land Rover.. Were told they had bigger ones then us... Spent the night in the can...Was an experience.....

And can add,,, but they did treat us well.. Threw us in a picquit vehicle next morning after we had sobered up and got us back to Seletar base before roll call.. Rule of thumb, don't argue with two 6'6" pommie red caps.. Also, meet the two chicks hanging around outside of Raffles across the road. Obviously waiting to pick up some one dumb like us...

Yesterday I spent nearly 10 hours on Fire Ground, a Hazzard Reduction Burn. I was tasked with our CAT1 Tanker, refilling the smaller vehicles(Cat 7 & 9's), along with patrolling the roads to prevent any spot fires.
Members of our brigade have been planning this event for two years.
Last Sunday I attended as 85 ha were burnt to start this action of protecting these properties & assets, yesterday nearly 50 acres. Weather dependant next weekend another parcel of land will be burnt.
We had a wind change that was unexpected which cause some concern to one farm house & multiple machinery sheds, having some 15 appliances attending, this was brought under control rather quickly to the properties owners relief.
In the last two outings, I have been fortunate to be teamed with members who have been RFS Members for many years, who can read the situation and have taught me a great deal.
I've completed my RFDO, so I am able to drive the CAT1, Operate the pump. The CAT1 has a water canon on the front of it, this enables us to attack a fire without getting out of the vehicle and entering a smokey environment.
Just about to head out again and mop up.

Power comes from the standard 4.5-litre turbo-diesel V8 engine, mated with a Toyota six-speed automatic or a five-speed manual with a reinforced clutch. Total fuel capacity is 275 litres.

There’s rear-wheel steering to make the car more manoeuvrable, along with a full suite of off-road goodies to take you deep into the wilderness.

Portal axles allow for 390mm of ground clearance, and there are three differential locks. Drivers can use the Garmin touchscreen to remotely inflate or deflate the tyres – or the car can automatically do it based on how fast you’re going.

A full airbag suspension system allows owners to choose from three heights: kneel, ride, and lift. There’s 100mm of difference between the three; owners are able to manually vary the ride height by up to 250mm at a standstill.

Agree entirely, but if proceeds are going to Victims of Crimes, they'd be better off selling it as a complete car.

Hi,
It does seem a waste of a resource that could be of more benefit to more people than a metal recycler.
Maybe the visual trauma to potential hoons as a deterrent effect is the aim?

Gentelmans agreement, and if they want they can look up what type of license you have. Its a really good format not like the old UHF 40 channel where language and crap goes on.

Yeah, noticed a few up there yesterday.

Which is a bit strange, as an old pilot mate reckons that if vapor trails hang around, it's supposed to mean rain withign 24-48 hours, but BoM reckons nothing for the next week ???

My knee was also whinging last night which usually also means the same, so I guess we'll see ???

Thursday before last, 16 Black Cockatoo's flew north over home.

Great show! You may as well call it 3 hours on stage & he was singing, with a little bit of talking between songs, for the whole time. He's still well & truly a showman, & unbelievable for 81!

Unfortunately, I didn't know a lot of the more modern songs, but he well & truly made up for it with some classics :-)

An awesome well-done to Supapeg! https://www.suparvaustralia.com.au/ (https://www.suparvaustralia.com.au/)

Needed to get anti-flap & bracing struts for the awning on the new van, so ordered them on Sunday arvo, with the presumably auto confirmation coming through to me at 15:27 Sunday 12/11.

OK, so they're only based at Yatala, between the GC & Brisbane, so not very far to travel, but the delivery arrived at 8:35 Tuesday morning! :cup: But wait, there's more! :-) They were delivered in that time by Couriers Please!!! :o

But when I unpacked it all, I realised that I'd only ordered one of the bits, thinking that the "one" they sold was a pair, not a single :-[, so I re-ordered an extra one immediately, confirmed at 09:58. It was delivered at 12:02 today! ;D

I think you could say that 26 hours from order to delivered is pretty darned good in anybody's terms! :-)

So, goodonya, Supapeg - you've definitely won me as a return customer when I need anything! :cup:

Why Gummints love inflation. Get the Land tax bill and the land valuations go up by 42.7% which means the tax goes up 98.8% from $1255 to $2495.
Indexation be damned and along with the increasing Regulatory burden favouring the dropkick or shonky tenant nightmare they wonder why landlords are selling up to Chinese students or local kids with the bank of mum and dad and earning sweet interest instead.

Yep, that’s why we offloaded ours. Landlords are facing more and more restrictions, increased rates and taxes whilst helping fill the shortage of public housing, short sighted government cash grab.

Nah, I'm so stuffed I couldn't be bothered, plus I got out of bed at 3am but crawled back in at 7.30 for another 5hrs. I could go back again now but that is the part that will make me smile when I feel better and not have to think about still making the logbook work.  ;D

Our Lawrence Rodeo, done & dusted for another year.
A big crowd, a hot steamy day and a shower just at the bell.
Thank you to all the Club's & Groups that make it the great fundraising event in the Clarence Valley that it is..
I will post figures when I receive them.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231231/10bf53add1cabe8b6a6046c2e40485cb.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20231231/61649a23854be138720087b08f417219.jpg)
