Title: Small business GST software
Post by: Brij on October 05, 2022, 07:26:11 PM
Whilst still working full time I have a "hobby" that has turned into a significant income, whilst also taking a significant amount of time to support it.
This year it looks like I will be hitting the $75000 turnover threshold that dictates I will be required to charge and process GST.

Any recommendations on software (MYOB, Xrox or whatever it is called, or others) that can manage the GST process?

No other real requirements. No employees or payroll. Invoices are simple so no real need for additional software to handle that part.

I/we used MYOB for years, once you set up your chart of accounts (ask your accountant ) the rest is easy PROVIDED you keep up with the entries. We kept the payments on a monthly basis, not quarterly or half yearly, heard too many stories about people getting into trouble with the payments.1 company from the USA brought in a sunset clause at 1 time so every 2 years you had to repurchase it, don't know if that still happens, but check it out, the name started with a Q

Have a look at Rounded, Australian software for sole traders. My wife has used it for a few years for her business.

I have used Invoice2go for about six years now, use it on my Mobile & Tablet(Android App), have it on my PC(Web based).
Costs about $660 p/a
Very simple, does GST, BAS.
Not set up for employees, but you can set it up for partners.
Take photos of receipts, screen shots of invoices when entering exspenses.
Easy to search for past expenses, clients, jobs.
I find it awesome, it's my mobile office.
What I really like about it is,
I know my costs of materials, my time, I can email/text the invoice as I finish the job, simple, quick, terms are 14 days, I'm paid that little bit sooner.

You don't use magic to disappear, ya use a 4x4 & Swag.

Have a look at https://manager.io . It's free to run on your PC or Mac and is set up for Australia. I've used it for several years now.

I used MYOB for twenty years. Changed to XERO three years ago and really really happy with it. Simple interface and easy to use.

Another vote for Xero. Very simple and intuitive to use.
However....I reckon there are plenty out there and you will get used to what ever you go with. Strongly suggest you chat to your accountant first as if there is something they use/recommend then go with that cause it will save them time (and you $$)

Actually the goal is to keep building and to derive a full time income eventually.
Most of the work involves sitting in front of a computer, so have phone service can work anywhere.
Last year took a 3 week working holiday and about every 2 or 3rd day just pulled out the laptop for a few hours whilst sitting back enjoying a few beveridges whilst camped beside a river.

Currently looking at dropping back to 4 day a week at main job, then next year maybe 3 day a week. See how we go.
