We the CFA were involved in helping to park cars for The Head of the River regatta just out of town . This snoozer & the wife turns up in a brand New Range Rover , 1st trip . l managed to direct him to park on a dry bare clay area . l congratulated him on " His 1st Off Road Esperance "  The wife smiled , he wasn't impressed at all .
lts all how you take it after all . Leave laughing as you go

The wife might have been trying to work out (like me) what an "off road Esperance" is, is it some model of RR ?

was out 4wding with a new Range Rover today, very capable vehicles even with the road profile tyres it had on it, watching the electronics in action up and down some steep loose rocky hills was quite interesting. well that was right up until a mate jumped in to drive it for a while and not more then 5 minutes up the track he sliced the side wall of the 19" tyre  :o ...glad i don't have to pay the replacement cost of that...lol.

Hey rumpy, had they done this "air down" thing on the Rangies tyres ?

Sorry to butt in on this but, because the Rangie Tyres are so low profile, lowering pressure (I don't like the term "Airing Down") to have any real affect is not an option.

It's not isolated to just your link. I had 4wd action links from a google search do the same thing last night. It's like google could read my mind.

was it a porn site it redirected you to Olly? have heard of a few people having that done to them whilst logging onto Overlander forum lately when using an IPAD or IPHONE

i know every vehicle other then that one there on the day aired down but i didn't see if the owner did of the Rangie as he was right up at the front of the line of the 6 vehicles all up we had there on the day. The guy who owned the vehicle does tag along tours for a living and has been 4wding for many many years and his partner in the company owns a well known 4wd tyre store, so i reckon he knows what he's doing with regards to what pressures are suitable to run in the vehicle. i know that doesn't answer the question, but it's all i got...lol

We did googs track a couple of years ago with my "not real" 100 series (no 33's or lockers), one in our party had an xtrail, went every where we did.  Yes he had to work a lot harder to get there but he did it.

Thanks rumpy, its seems the walls bulge out excessively when the pressure is reduced and are exposed to rocks, I've never bothered with it to be honest.

Its the trend now it seems.

Explanation for some who need it...

When we bought the X-Trail, it was for the clearance, and something that could tow better than the Lancer we had at the time. Nissan sell them as a 4x4, and it has a "lock" button on the dash that I assummed locked the rear wheels in constant - figured that was just a bonus (since found/worked out the reality, but that's my fault for not researching better at the time  ::)  ), but still didn't believe it to be a proper 4x4...I've driven too many places that need 4wd in 4x4's to not fall into that thinking!

The idea behind the sticker is for both those who believe them (X-Trails) to be a proper 4x4 - and I've come across quite a few who do think that  :o  and those with a proper 4x4 who're snobs, but never take theirs any futher than the dirt road leading into the local picnic area - and I've come across quite a few of them as well  ;)  eg: there's 1 bloke here with a prado (with all accessories except for bullbar done after purchase), has the big arsed spotlights, roof basket with attached awning, ariel either side of bullbar, compulsory MT's and lift, the only dirt it's ever seen has been during road works when they've removed the tar, and you only need to drive 2 minutes to be in the bush where I am. Doesn't do any towing except for a 6x4 box trailer that he carries a couple of lawn mowers and sundries in. And yet, he's had the hide to laugh at me...till I pointed out how he needs to remove his hand from his d*** ;) And there's many more like that that I've come across
As for me getting stuck??? Highly unlikely, for the simple reason I driven enough proper 4x4 in areas that need 4wd to know not to take a NON 4x4 into places it shouldn't go, and if I ever do happen to get bogged, I have a hand winch and patience  ;)  And if through some stupidity on my part that I was stuck, and someone with a 4x4 came along, noticed the sticker, and kept going, they'd be doing me a favour, because even worse than being with such a shallow - narrow minded - no sense of humor snob...is having to talk to them...and even worse than that, is being obliged to say 'thank you' to someone like that!  ;)

P.S  I posted it on this forum because I figured most would get a laugh, no thought of upsetting anyone, knowing that the folks here do use their 4x4's...after all, the theme here is bush  ;)

An extremely well put together & articulate piece of prose.
At the risk of earning the ire of Myswag Prado owners I must say that Prados do appear to be the vehicle of choice for the "Look How Tough I am" brigade. I invited a bloke in a bells & whisles version to accompany us for a drive up at Glasshouse. He got to the 1st "challenge" turned tail & went home & no, it wasn't vehicle wrecking stuff. One of the vehicles was a bog standard Freelander.

^^^^^

Mate of mine did the same thing once, but in a Hilux.

He made the mistake of taking SHMBO and the daughter along for a drive tagging along with us up the King Valley.

Instead of giving them both the get out and walk option he turned tail.

So, there may have been other factors involved  ;D

I completely get what your saying about some people with your type of vehicle thinking they have a indestructible and go anywhere 4WD. I also know a couple of people with ‘Transfer case 4WD’s’ who have never been it off road, but are happy to give advice or tell me how they need the 4WD to drive some nice smooth graded dirt roads.

I work with a guy who has owned 3 4WD’s and none of them have been off road. But for fun they drive to the local 4WD beach and spend a couple of hours at the entry/exit point and laugh/give advice to cars getting bogged coming on/off the beach.   This coming from someone who has never driven this exit and to make it even funnier they don’t park too close to this place as they walk the last 100m. Just in case someone ever asks for a snatch out as then he might have to put his so called skills to use.
