The firewood thread
« on: August 02, 2014, 09:54:38 AM »
Thought I would start a post for all firewood related conversations. Feel free top post up pics, storeys, offers, info and organise cutting expeditions for those of us who like lumberjacking!

Ever used one of these?
Wear shin guards.

This isn't my pic, still trying to find one of it. It's a Mobilco Barrow Saw. Powered by a Villiers 5hp engine.  Dad brought one in the early 60s, used it once or twice and then put it in the back of the Barn.

It stayed there until about 2002 when I gave it away to a local to restore. Motor still had spark when it was turned over.

Brutal things, glad I never used it. Mite have been the initial trigger to my career in WHS. The blade cut direction threw things at you at ground level. Bounce bounce whack!

I've never used one but seen plenty in use. My uncle has one. He used it once and vowed never again!

The bench does a good enough job for us.

Many men suffered fatal injuries cutting sleepers when the blade was in the horizontal position. They were called widow makers by the old time timber getters.

did a dump run yesterday, getting rid of green rubbish from the back yard.

dropping off the ute load and looked over and saw someone had just dumped a sh!te load of hardwood. loaded up and off set the weight of my rubbish with about 50kg of wood. Saved myself a few dump vouchers and some dollars on buying wood for the next trip away
Cheers

Justin

Ah you are too kind I am not sure if anyone deserves firewood more than someone else but certainly have been needing it at night time at least the days are being nice at the moment.

I was going to but then I found out he didn't have a trailer and I didn't have a spare one at home to load for him haha. So bring on that Karma bus I reckon, even for me that would be a big effort to have burnt all that wood over night haha

So he can come up & collect a trailer then pop in & fill it for the trip home to keep his family warm  ??? ???. What a great bloke lending you a trailer almost so long you reckon its yours  :cup:
