Politics and sport
« on: October 11, 2017, 04:03:14 PM »
Our politicians are always spouting off about how politics should be left our of sports. See the U19 North Korean soccer team has not been allowed into the country, stopped by the government. Regardless of what's happening over there it looks like the government will do what they want, when they want. All it means is the games will be shifted to another country and played there. Won't stop Rocket Man from doing his thing.

Or religion in politics as a sport

This happens all over the world, it's not exacting a political thing it's normally for the safety of the team. Like the Socceroos not playing in Syria. Same as the cricketers playing in neutral venues. With Nth Koreans... who are they? You would never be truly sure who they are and what threat they could pose to other people

Mentioned on the local news last night about next year's Comm Games.

They're saying there's a bit of a bun fight going on between various Dept's over visa's.

Apparently, people from various (un-named) countries are currently blocked by Immigration from getting visa's to come to Oz, which means that no athletes from those countries will be able to come. The organisers & the Comm Games governing body are saying that's not good enough & we need these athletes to be able to come as well for the sake of the Games ???

Sorry, but if there are concerns about tourists from "there" coming here, then why would be let athletes come ???

RE Comm Games, after Melbourne there was a stack of athletes who decided they weren't keen on going back to their war torn homes so went walkabout and missed their planes. No doubt it's a common theme for those less fortunate.

Are the Comm games or even the Olympics relevant anymore? I've never had any interest in them personally...

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be fine, no safety issues, no terrorists, no traffic snarls, no public transport problems and simply no drama's.
It is being organised by Peter Beattie, the same person who approved the big bucks for the Goodwill Bridge.
That's the bridge that was going to pay for itself with all the people coming to Brisbane to get married on it. So far it has raised $2.87 injust 16 years.
What could possibly go wrong?

At present I don't think North Koreans are running people down in trucks or blowing people up. I don't see it as a safety thing. But who knows what Rocket Man could have them do.

Nup - just an excuse for a lot of officials to give themselves a holiday on the coat-tails of the athletes >:D

& starting 2 days after Easter, always the GC's busiest weekend of the year, spanning the entire Qld, & first week of the NSW, School holidays - No, it'll be fine, he said! >:D

The day it was announced that the GC had "won" :'( the Games (what's 2nd prize - getting to do it twice ??? >:D), my BiL said they wouldn't be here for the fortnight & we're in agreement - Leslie Dam is looking nice at the moment :D

Didn't they think that the benefit may be Kim would not nuke Australia while his soccer team are here.

Actually having so much politics in politics annoys me......

I think it's probably just as likely that if they lost their match, then he'd immediately nuke the place >:D

Dont think Nuking his soccer team in another country  would worry Kim dong li'll much at all ..
He already starves most of the his countries population as it is and has a reputation for doing away with anyone he pleases .. Dear old uncle and heaps of others .
