Go have a listen, never auditioned one but I'd reckon it'd be pretty easy. Left right centre check.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Just make sure your TV has suitable audio outputs as a lot of new TV's dont and you will need a converter.

This is the one swmbo uses.
I rarely watch tv so cant really say if its worth it or not, but if it makes her happy Im happy.
She runs hers directly off her tbox thingy.

They usually sound better than tv spks at least.....
I prefer ones with a optical in. Makes it easier, instead of changing input on tv and soundbar if your running a few hdmi devices through it. But if you have a dtv rec then better to do switching at the sound bar.less button presses and hdmi control.
Most come with a wireless sub aswell.

They wont come near a proper setup but are alot better than the tv spks thats for sure.

Bit pricy but we got a good deal on the Samsung HW-H751/XY when we bough our Samsung TV. Sound is pretty amazing especailly when comparing with the inbuilt speakers. Also the blutooth works well and sound bar+woofer turns on and off automatically when the TV is turned on or off.

Just for something different, why not a good set of bookshelf speakers?

Perhaps a set of Pioneer SP-BS22 speakers?

Sometimes, they can be a better option, depending on other components...

But I also hear that Yamaha soundbars are pretty good too...

What's your room setup like?  What's your budget?

got a Yamaha one, mainly cause it was on special. yes theyre better than the speakers on the telly especially with the woofer but still not surround sound like we can have with the big Yamaha amp with stadium/concert/concert effects through the Jensen speakers

Bit pricey but have a look at the Sonos gear. Very versatile

Depends what you get it for.

I don't care about cinema grade sound effects, I just hate missing the dialogue which seems a common theme on the thin screen tvs. increasing volume just makes 'noise'.

I bought a cheap one from DSE. I have found it to be really good for my purpose and it came with the optical cord and has a learn function to respond to your tv remote so on & off and volume work using tv remote. It cost about $160 and is Yamaha from memory (it is currently packed up from our move)

Thanks

We won a 42" flat screen at a local fund raiser. The picture is good enough, but the sound is crap.

Mark went to JB and bought a Sony HTCT60BT sound bar. It's in the link you posted.....the $249 one.

It goes OK. It's much better than the TV audio, but not HT standard (well, not mine anyway...). It makes the telly usable.

never really used a sound bar. i use a 5.1 surround sound. Logitech z5500. i prefer the sound all around. pretty old now but still well and truly loud enough to annoy the ferals next door.

I went the whole hog and put in a 6.1 systems years ago, two towers for the fronts, twin speakers box for the centre,
couple of book shelfs fo the sides and two roof mounted for the rears and massive sub.

At that time it didn't cost much more for the speakers than the bar yours looking at though the yamaha amp
was about $600 on special.

Better sound than the cimenas, all gets back to what you are prepared to spend, if yuo buy a budget
system you'll get budget sound, if you can afford a good quality surround sound setup you'll get many
many years out of it, downside is you need the space for the speakers.

Denon are great units. I have a Denon amp. Now I think of it, it is about 15years old. You'd never know it though - awesome sound with the 5.1 set up correctly.

We've just put a Yamaha sound bar on the wall u der the pergola with the TV, it's great to have good sounds for the to but a even better to stream music from the iPad and be able to keep all the neighbours awake with some good sound.
