What did you do in your shed / man cave today?

i've never quite understood what people use these for?

if it's timber, wouldn't you use a circular saw and for trees and other odd bits, a chainsaw?

genuinely interested as to what you might use this for?

They were basically designed as a demolition tool and as a tool allowing access where circ saws and chainsaw are impractical.

My recip saw gets used like no tomorrow. So versatile it's not funny. It can completely remove the need for a hot works permit (no sparks). Has cut 1/4 plate with carbide blades for hours on end, like a hot knife through butter.

My old corded saw is a metabo, had for years and done a huge amount of work but unfortunately I can no longer get blades so I need a new one. I will go with a AEG cordless as that is what my power tools are now evolving into.

I need a new blower so am wondering about the AEG 18volt blower, anyone with experience

Only old surveyors would remember Cubits 
There is a guy in Sydney has written some apps to use with this kit so you measure from the base to the tool rest to the knife edge. This gives you the right edge angle to sharpen the knife. Hence the verniers and are in both metric,.... and imperial for dinosaurs like Fizzie and bad Scott

A mate of mine made his own linishing machine and could sharpen my worn, 4 mm thick ride on mower blades. He measured all the angles of a new blade and made a jig up to suit. So, all he did was clamp the old, worn blade in the jig and 'Voila!' Seeing replacement blades were $125, I was pretty impressed.

There are lots of jigs you can get for this system. One of them is an axe jig so might have a go at sharpening the old Hytest. Another jig is for planer blades which could possibly do mower Blades.

I use one when we butcher lambs. Makes breaking down the carcasses pretty easy.

Finished off my wood storage lean to ready for winter. Put some flashing on my new garage extension. Going to have to build something because 6 months is a long time.

I,ve had my Milwaukee reciprocating saw for about 5 years. Never missed a beat.  I use it for trimming branches. I,cut down palm trees up yo 300mm in diameter and cut all the fronds down to bin size. Its handy for cutting treated pine fencing or garden posts, planks.  Very quick and easy for cutting pine for framework. Cut ply . Cut tree roots. Cut underground conduits if need be.  Also use it to cut steel pipe and tubing.  I wouldnt use it to say cut a new wall frame .. Many people take them camping now instead of a chainsaw..  They really are a great tool to have...so many uses.

Fitted a cat door so we don't have to keep the laundry door open all the time. Now to see how smart the cat is

He didn't have to read the the instructions, look at the pictures or anything.

It took the cat a week to work out how to unlock the door as it could be unlocked from both sides. I have since replaced the cat door with one that only has locks on the inside not the cat side.

If he was anything like Mum's Siamese, he'd happily walk out through the open garage door, then come back & sit outside the front door (3 m's away from the still open garage!) & cry to be let back inside!

After all, well brought up little Siamese pussy-cat's don't just come into their house through the garage, like common alley-cats (or humans)!
