Good news and bad in the past 24 hours...
« on: October 29, 2010, 01:23:06 PM »
I've been staring at the calendar for the past two months, counting down the days until delivery of my new Kimberley Platinum, and yesterday I got a call from the Dealer telling me it got built way ahead of schedule - WOO-HOO!!!

Then I got a call this morning telling me that the country has a shortage on BFG 265/70 R17 tyres (ie: to match the Prado) and I might not get these until December - NOOOOO!!!!

Looks like our first weekend camping might be out the front of the Dealer's yard... on blocks  ;D

Failing that, the Perth 4WD and Adventure Show is on in a couple of weeks... maybe I could case the car-park  >:D

Oh well, I'll just keep rolling with the punches, I'm sure it will be worth the wait!

Yeah, had thought of the D694's - happy to wait an extra little bit to keep all 8 tyres (C/T and Prado) the same.

Apparently, anyone wanting BFG Mud Terrains have a three month wait!   ???

My Kimberley Platinum is due to be completed on the 15th November also.

I am having BFG 285/75r16 KM2 Muddies and they are available in Brisbane.

If it causes any issues i will supply my own.

If there is a problem with the bags ,  Get what you can then up grade . Why not trawl the wreckers for a set then go new .
It will get you going at the very least . Think outside the square .

Problem is: CT is build over east and transported to WA.
If you provide your own tyres, you have to pay for the return of the transportation rims/tyres.

I was wanting to buy just one BFG mud to add to the brand new spare I have and then run a set of 6, same as I do with the ATs.  Min 6 week wait, then was told they can't get old pattern anymore anyway so still a six week wait for 2 of the KM2 pattern.  A mate looking for ATs has same delivery time.  Anyone wanting a 285/75/16 brand new old pattern BFG Mud tyre...  I have one to get rid of

Theres a general shortage of tyres, my Kumho's are not available, the FC2's IM running on mine arent available, and a few other threads on patrol saying no supply.

Cant be the strong $$ as the reason unless they are ordering double the usual amount of tyres and BF Cant supply from factory.

Conspiracy theory. Since Michelin took over control of most of the tyre market, tyres have been hard to source and this has increased prices. Higher prices equal higher profits. Maybe they are trying the De Beers model of restrict supply and increase demand.

Yep - that's the route I'm probably going to go down.  To be honest, if the delay is a couple of weeks, I can probably live with that... any longer and I'll be searching through the local Trading Post to tide me over.

I've got 5 tyres that size in the garage that I would struggle to sell. That is the standard tyre size for late 100 series, so you should be able to pick up some 2nd hand Dunlop AT22s for a bargain.

Well, after a heap of phones calls and driving a gazillion klms, I've managed to find quite possibly the last three BFG A/T's in WA for the time being (in size 265/70/17).

Two were in stock at one dealer, the other was a display tyre on a shop floor!

Sorted....

Check out Silverstone tyres.

they're basically a rip off of the BFG's (exactly same tread pattern) and they are 1/2 the price.

Now, just waiting until the 26th for my next RDO to pick it up... Tick-tock, Tickk-tockkkkkkk.....
