Not a troll, but the Ranger Raptor will get closer to keeping up with a Wrangler than say a Patrol.

Them's fightin words!

I can't understand why anyone would buy a ute and try and tow 3.5 ton full stop ??

The Raptor will be for the urban wanna be cowboys.......a can of spray on mud will be an accessory !!!
Totally agree our D.Max and modified Jayco (suspension up grade) went 6.3 ton yep 350kg over.
Now new MUX and 2 ton camper well with in legal limits.

Dangit! I came back to say exactly that!^

I don't predict many 3 ton van dragging nomads buying these, but that doesn't mean they won't sell plenty. I was trying to explain that to my 3.5 ton 25 foot silverline hauling dad. He can't understand why anyone would buy a ute that can't drag 3.5 ton, and no matter how hard I try I can't convince him that there are people out there who don't need that towing capacity and (this one makes him need a lie down) might not even put towing capacity at the top of their list of criteria!

Having said that, I do reckon we'll be seeing plenty of these on the road soon enough, though I doubt I'd buy one even if I did have 80k to drop on a rig.

Agreed.  Why would you introduce a ute that fits the market you already have with the Ranger?  The whole idea would be to sell to a different buyer and not your existing customers.  Yes it will be for those who won't use the payload, like a bit of extra 4WD ability offload, like the look of the ute, or are even urban cowboys.  Its often about image!!!  How many Prado's on the road actually need its clearance and 4WD ability?  People like the idea of the possibilities and buy accordingly and the companies cash in.  Its not for me but there will be a market, and Ford knows it.

I agree, but the Prado doesn’t have much clearance. It’s only about 220mm.  Same as the average Ute, 4wd wagon. That’s not much.

Consider "  Off Road " with a rig that wider than the usual  . l followed a bloke up the Cape in a black Unimog  , at each crossing he had real trouble as he was wider than the cutting . There was lots of scrapes & dings as he cut his new width entry /exits .
Just what could you expect . ???

I doubt you'll see many, if any, Raptors up in the Cape.

While we are on the subject of Rangers  how much do you know about the fire hazards .
Rangers diesel have a cross member under the drivers seat that collects grass clippings  .
The exhaust pipe runs over the top ,  build up of grass ,  hot pipes  . Think about it  >:D

Plus on the Diesel, the particulate filter/exhaust afterburner.  When it fires up, you get an exhaust that's way hotter.
In an area where the pipe would normally be at its coolest.

There have already been burnt utes because of them.

Ok so im the minority

Price point aside it is the engine that sunk me

I dont tow anymore and like the odd blast up to the beach or where i want to go and i also hate having to buy a new ute then go to ARB to spend extra money on stuff. I also cant stand the fact that in 2018 i have to buy a ute with crappy drum brakes on the back and handles like a pig due to leaf suspension. The Raptor potentially solved these issues

If they had of released the raptor with a decent V6 or similar petrol engine i probably would have bought a second hand one when the prices came down. It is designed as a off road fun machine more than a tow vehicle so why have a diesel at all

Pretty much my thoughts also.

Went and had a look yesterday.

Didn't like the plastic bumper. Didn't appear to be much more (if any) extra room in the second row. It looks wider but mainly just how the fenders are flared.

One thing that always get me with expensive cars... no window tint.

I'm sure it performs well off-road but it wouldn't be my first choice of ute

Why would you expect any extra rear set room  when it is just a normal Ranger on steroids, same for the width, normal ranger with steroid induced flares

I'm waiting for the 2019 RAM 1500

I stopped at a dealership in Ballarat the other day and had a look at one. First impression: Farrrk she's big lol. I would've loved to hear it start up hehe. Plenty of room inside for me & mine. Dunno how short wifey would do getting up to the cab though  >:D
We've swapped from the camper to a van yay! :)

Yeah it’s got plenty of room. I had a look at the 2018 that’s available now but apparently the 2019 version is a big improvement

An article I read (?) suggested an engine upgrade and an Superior Engineering coil conversion kit would be a good substitute. https://www.superiorengineering.com.au/4x4-suspension/coil-conversion-kits?filter=364,355

Interesting idea but wouldn't have the "WOW" factor

Not sure. The one they had on display was definitely plastic but had a metal bash plate

Just looked it up. ‘Frame mounted bumper’. The frame pic shows a crossmember in behind the plastic. Definitely plastic though. Front guards are ‘composite’. Quite a lot of little differences to a bog standard one. If I was leasing and wanted something I could tour in I’d be taking one for a drive. It would eat up outback miles and corrugations like a sahara with kdss I reckon.
