Hi all
« on: January 04, 2011, 12:40:37 PM »
G'day all

Signed up a couple of days ago, been doing LOTS of reading & idea stealing checking the good ideas of others :)

Been doing the tent camping (though not as often as I would've liked), went to the Caravan & Camping show at Batemans Bay last november to see what was around.
Minister for finances showed a big interest in the Pop-Tops. We'd decided we liked that idea, but at 23k for the cheapest-& finances the way they are for now, figured we'd wait a couple more yrs.

In the past I'd toyed with the idea of getting a trailer & marrying it with our tent, so started checking them out while we were there.
Looked at a few & 2 really caught our eye, price being a major factor :)
As we've got a Mitsi Lancer, the off-roads were out of the picture straight up, though they gave us an idea of what was what.
One CT was $4200, but things like spare wheel + holder, on road costs, mattress, annex floor etc drove the price up, though to be fair, for the show, they where throwing in some of the extras :)
The other included all those extras as standard for $4000 + knocked $500 off if we payed cash at the end of the show - saved them towing it back to Sydney as well :)
Gotta say, only took me making a cuppa & 5min of begging/pleading/groveling/crying/making promises for the minister to be convinced :D
So Champion Campers got our business.

As she came

Just the tent

Minus the Annex floor & front wall

Being on the cheaper side, there're a couple of things that show it, but as I'm not an anal type of bloke, I can happily live with 'em :)
Things like safety chain rusty, trailer itself has some small areas that could use a paint touch-up, structs to hold the tent up for access into the trailer had bracket holes drilled in the wrong place when building & then corrected (but I'll just give them a touch of weld to fill.

Had her out 3 times now on short trips to get the feel of things, & gotta say, even the minister now thinks we've done the right thing, more than happy :)

Great intro, keep it coming. What makes this forum a good place to come is the info people share, and you're right on the money.

;D Great stuff and a big welcome.  IMHO it doesn't matter if it's $500 or $500,000 if it sits in the shed it's worthless, so yours sounds like it's gold plated seeing you've got it out 3 times already, bargin  :cup:... looks neat and the side walls make it look comfy.
Looking forward to see what happens when the 'mod' bug bites  >:D

Welcome Bobnrob, like Paul say's it's not the size of the camper that matters just how you use it.
Enjoy the forum but most of all enjoy the camping.

Welcome to Myswag , Enjoy .
Dont get to concerned with the paint chips , if you havent got them your still at home in the back yard & thats not the point . What price can you put on being able to slowly roll out of bed  out there somewhere , then enjoy a cupper with her out doors  . Pack it & track it .
If you want to know anything ask when you start the mods

@ D4D
No pajero in the future, but when the bank officially hands the Lancer over in (approx) 18mths, Minister is talking of maybe an Outlander.
Not proper 4wd, but will be able to get part of the way off-road :)

@ Paul
Mods already started or ready to start. Had to put my mark on it straight away  ;D (more info here )

Looking forward to bouncing ideas 'round with everyone, & maybe even meeting some out on the road
