Another Jayco in WA
« on: August 15, 2012, 05:04:09 PM »
Hi All,

As seems to be common around here, I have been lurking for a bit and getting a heap of good info from you all, So I thought I would introduce myself and start with a big thank you to all of you!

We bought a 2003 Jayco Dove Outback a about a month ago now. We bought it from a family who had just travelled from QLD staying in the dove for 6 months on the way across, however is it is in remarkable condition.

Unfortunately the first thing we had to do was to get it registered in WA, which as most people know is as pleasant as a trip to the dentist, especially when you turn up to the inspection and the inspector says "you're not supposed to bring caravans here" after 2 inspections (hint here to anyone in WA, do NOT use the governement inspection centres, go to one of the authorised private ones.. specifically Auto Power in Joondalup)

Since going through that fun and games (and expense) we have managed to get out for 1 overnighter in the Dove (just to Avon Valley National Park) but we plan to do many many more, including a trip to Exmouth in November.

So far all I have done on the camper is:

Replace the Centurian unit with a multi stage charger
Replace the battery (it had an 18ah SLA on the drawbar) with a Delkor DC31
Swing Up Jockey Wheel
Stereo
Water Pump
Cut the toolbox mounts off the rear bar and putting the spare wheel back on to it (previous owner had cut the spare wheel mount off and made a spare wheel mount under the chassis)
Replaced the light globes with LED

Thankyou again for all those who have put awesome information into this forum!

A few pics to give this thread some worth.

thanks all for the welcome!

We already do love the Jayco!!! Just a few more things to do on it before it is ready for our big Exmouth trip (mainly new tyres, hoping to get something similar in outside diameter to my 265/75/16's that I have on the Navara to bring it up to level with the car (it is ALMOST level as it is)

thanks again all!

Welcome to the forum, the set up looks great and should provide a good base for going out to explore, no better way for the kids to see this great land

Looks good... The Jayco's sure are popular... I know why after having a look through a Flamingo outback  that a lady at work has.  I was very impressed especially once it was modded up a little bit with a few extras.

Cheers
