A big thank you to evolution
« on: September 09, 2013, 05:42:42 PM »
Just want to say how nice this guy really is, im sure others will know this too :D

Few weeks ago i posted about my bullbar, within a few mins of making the post evolution offered his help to fit it up if i wanted to, must say first time anyone has offered to help me without question, so at first i was considering it.

About two weeks ago evolution posted a thread for a GU Roof Console, i had been wanting to get one for a while and had even tried to knock something up myself (which fell apart on me) i was going to just get a template and help evolution with making it digital, but he decided to make me one.

I have been wanting a UHF for a while, after talking with him about getting a uhf he mentioned he needed to upgrade because his new roof console didn't allow enough room for the bigger uhf. He also helped me with the wiring for the aerial and all the power in the roof.

Being such a nice guy he even knocked up a roof console for me and further to my expectations it looks pretty sweet.
Ill let the images tell the story.

The bracket we knocked up, i think its 1.6mm Gal plate, lets just say it was not easy to bend.

We still have to cover the front bracket and drop the mirror down a bit, i think we are also going to change the front lights over to something else and also work out the dvd player lights with the doors.

I would really like to thank evolution for putting so much into making this for me, i am no wood worker and if anyone seen my wood working skills you would all have a good laugh :D

Top job, looks just like a bought one!

Well done Evo for both the handicraft and helping out a swagger!

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).

Word of caution about this man and his roof console's. The one in evo's car I have only ever seen playing Thomas the tank engine so I'd be careful. Could get sick of Thomas quickly, especially when the kids get to be teenagers!!

Add to this the torture that he put Fuji through threatening to drill a hole in the cruiser!

Well actually It did play one episode of Bob the builder............... But then it got hot and smoke came out.............. lol

And I blame Fuji for that, it was self inflicted.... ( I swear) lol

LOL funny you say that, guy who fitted my roof screen put a nice long screw into the roof lining, then yesterday while evo had the drill in his hand i was like please dont push too far.. he could see the sweat coming off me at that point.

Thankfully evo knows his stuff and can be trusted with power tools :D

Actually thats a good point to mention for everyone.

If your making a roof console, and are screwing it into the roof supports please check them first!
Where I screwed into on the patrol is either side of where the rear light is. Now this has 2 sections of steel before the roof skin.
So the idea is you can pre drill your holes and you can tell when you are through the first. Then when you put the screws in the point of the screw will in no way touch the roof skin.

However on a patrol there is also another cross brace which you can use. (same one outback use) This does not have any other protection from the roof skin, as it is only like some C channel upside down. In Nick's  case, a prior installer has used a screw that was too long and dam near put it through the roof.
so please be careful and check before you plan to drill anywhere lol

Cheers

mmmmm Yeah I don't think mine would be useable for a canopy........ maybe a fire pit or a really large paper weight

maybe, still haven't found one yet...........

I could make a papermache canopy?

Even if there is no where in the new workshop to throw tennis balls there will be somewhere in the backyard just for you!  :cup:
