3 Way Fridge on Gas

Afternoon All,

We have recently bought a new 2010 Jayco Eagle Outback and have issues running the fridge on gas.  It is venting mostly through the top vent inside the CT, which in turn makes the vent hot and the surrounding bench (obviously not a problem using on 240v). We took it to the local Dometic repairer here in Launceston and he basically told me to fix it myself by insulating the exhaust pipes some more as that's all he'd do, so thats what I have done but it's still too hot to touch the inside vent.
My question is: Has anyone else had/have this problem?  If it does sound like a problem I will push Jayco & Dometic further to repair.

The fridge works really well on the gas/electricity (beer nice and cold), I'm just worried the young bloke will burn his hands if/when he climbs on the bench.

Check this link out very carefully. I have asked the question myself. There are good instructions on ways to fix the problems you are talking about. Check especially the links mentioned here in post number 4 I think it is.

Pics? Does it have 2 outside vents? My Dometic (Goldstream) vents outside out the top vent and sucks in cool air from the bottom vent.

Yes it does have two outside vents, I will take some photos of what I have done later and post them..

From memory we pulled the guard off from outside wall and then lifted the grill inside and put aluminium foil in there.  We have also taken the guard off the outside wall of our van as well.  We used to take it off and put in back on for the Eagle, put have just left it off this van.  Don't know if it is a dust cover or something.  Certainly makes a difference when it is removed.

Sorry for the Hijack however, I hope my input will be of help to the masses.
I will need to do a similar modification to our Coromal. How easy is it to remove the plastic external vents (I would imagine most vents are attached using the similar means) without damage? Any special tools or tricks to make the task easier?

On mine there is a little clip at one end which pushes up and then able to pull out one end at a time.
No special tools required just fingers..  :cheers:

They use a stupid clip that usually breaks. I refitted mine with white self tappers and all good.

Good luck with that, Jayco are not allowed to touch them now, and Dometic blame Jayco for the installation. Its like a vicious cycle. I recently went through it. I blew up that hard i started swearing at everyone and thats when things got sorted  8)
I felt bad after the dummy spit but it worked  :angel:
It does get quiet warm on that top vent on gas, but your sounds excessive.
Definately worth checking out and yes removing the top air grille does wonders.
