I worked in heavy engineering construction for 48 years prior to retirement. The only break was 2 years Nashos. I applied for the dole once but got a job before I collected my first payment.
Longest stint was 4 & 1/2 years. Most jobs were around 18 months to 2 years. Travelled Australia extensively and also worked off shore and overseas.
Wouldn't have changed it for quids.

Back around the late 90's when I was working for myself, I'd had a bugger of a day installing a TV antenna system with multiple outlets, distribution amp etc etc, about a week before Xmas and I was knackered. I got back to my workshop, cranked up the aircon and the music, and had a few refreshing beers by myself. By the time the mrs got home, I was getting a bit hammered, and it was only about 3pm.

Wots this? she says?

Staff Christmas party... I says

She just shook her head and walked out...  ;D

Left school on 1st Dec 1972. Started work on 4th Dec 1972 - with black hair. Retired from same employer 3rd July 2017 with grey hair. Employment does that to you. Now if only I could remember how to work out how long that was !!

Last employer (first job out of school) was July 1990 to July 2015 - not a bad run! Latest employer from July 2015 to now.
We've swapped from the camper to a van yay! :)

Problem you may unfortunately (???) face Edz, is exactly what happened to me - "Due to the physical limitations you now have, following your workplace accident, we consider that there is no longer any role that you can fulfill in the Company", so bye-bye, Fizzie.

(I've also got to admit, though, that it's not exactly the worst thing that could have happened! >:D)

They could always give me a flash shirt,  a company I-phone to face chat my mates with at work while I hide in an office and the six figure salary that goes with it  ..
Bit craggy around the edges but still young at heart . Hell I might even slick up the hair and get a manicure like the pups do . ;D

Last job was for 36 years working at the same place, but we had three owners in that time. Finally couldn't take all the crud that management thinks up these days and pulled the pin. Now have a job that has sh*t pay, no time off, and the new management has absolutely no idea what they are doing, but wouldn't change it for the world. ;D

Been self employed the majority of the past 27 years....was an apprentice the first 3 years (yep knocked a 4 year apprenticeship over in 3 years) and was a wage slave for a builder for about a year and a half (about 5 years ago), but other then that it's been unpaid holidays ever since.
