Title: Your luckiest Win
Post by: JusyApples on February 25, 2018, 08:31:10 AM
So last week, my wife who's in a high pressure job was having a bad day, her and her work mate decided to go to a nearby pub to chill out for a while. They decided to chuck $20 on the pokies, they both wanted the same machine but my wife said let me have it, if I win the jackpot I will give you $3000. (Thinking she would not actually win it). He agreed. She wins the jackpot $25 000!

She rang me, I didn't believe her until she face timed me next to the pokie machine.
Needless to say my next question was why are you playing pokie machines on a Wednesday afternoon. She never gambles so my mates who regularly play the pokies with no wins like that were extremely jealous.

What's been your luckiest win? Lotto, a competition..? share your story

Won the Keno jackpot over the Christmas holidays at my in-laws local.  Paid for our holiday costs, pretty happy with that.

Back in 2012 I was working on a Saturday listening to the footy in my ear muffs and they had a promo/ competition for the Adelaide 4wd and camping show. When I got home I got on the computer and answered the question in 25 words or less.  Where is your favourite place in South australia to go 4wding and camping?

The Limestone coast, you have the dunes of Beachport to Robe with camping, fishing, great food and wine all in close proximity.

About a week later I got a call and I had won an Engel and a heap of passes to the show(Thats where I had to pick up the fridge aswell) And as there was only the two of us going, we made a families day at the entrance by giving them the passes so they got in for free. ;D

The best thing was we were about to buy a fridge for our outback trip so this was perfect!

The misses won second prize in a local school raffle 2 years ago...we got a household fridge, washing machine and split system air con unit ...first prize was a car for those wondering what it was.
I had a run of winning prizes in small charity function raffles about 2 years ago, I won an evacool esky (that I didn't need so told them to redraw the prize for somebody else), hid spotties that are on my fourby now and various other small things....my mates started ragging me about how often I was winning stuff in raffles....lol. Think I've used my luck up now though, most I've won in lotto would be $20, never win on scrathies or betting on the horses etc. on the rare occasion I do that stuff.

Does 3 meat trays on one Friday night at the pub count?

Even better, the tickets were free.

When I was  a young kid, I entered a paddle pop, or similar competition. I didn’t win anything in the main draw but did manage to pick up a cricket bat and Test Match board game in the second chance draw.

Few years back the missus and I brought new daypacks at Paddy Palin, theg asked did I want to enter the competition, didn't bother asking what it was for, just filled out the paperwork.

Few months latter I got a call saying I'd won, 2 Macpac cascade backpacks (these are great backpacks) and a trip.
A few nights on treehouse room on Hinchinbrook island, flights, transfers and meals included. All we had to do was pay for drinks.

Don't know what it was worth, but it was awesome.

I once won the raffle at the kids local school. Prize was a trailer load of split firewood, that got me excited.
Just recently I won a new GT Mustang, but had to give it back at the close of business after driving it all day around the tweed valley.Would have been better if I could keep it.

Did the graduate outcomes survey for uni.

Got a phone call asking for my address a few months later

Couple of days later a $1000 prepaid VISA card appeared.

Had the follow up email for 4 years after finishing come through the other day

Filled it in... now the waiting game... I could do with another win like that.

Im not a gambler. Back in 2008 the company I work for had done pretty well for the year so the Christmas party was a room at Jupiters casino, dinner and a show. At Dinner we each got an envelope with $500 cash in it. The mrs was pregnant at the time, but the boys played up at dinner, then the show, then we hit the Casino. She gave me half the cash, pocketed the rest and wandered off to bed and proceeded to text me every 1/2 hour whining about me coming up and not being a clown at a work event - haha. I gave my money to my director who'd bet on anything. He lost half of it on one bet. We went over to play fan tan or some game with dice. That $125 at one stage was up nearly $35k and we had a great time and lost most of it again. I crawled up to bed as the sun was coming up and the Mrs was filthy. Started emptying my pockets of chips I'd squirrelled away through the night and it added up to nearly $6k. She proceeded to be less filthy. That money paid for fitting out the Colorado with a roof top tent, (they weren't cheap back then), awning, water bladder and a few other things for our desert trip in '09. That was my one and only trip to a casino this millennium.

Years ago Dad bought us a lotto ticket as a thank you for everything we had been doing to look after him in his later years.
Bugger me dead if we didnt get a win $1400 Something bucks ..
That put a big smile on the Old mans face ..  They were just random  birthday numbers  picked instead of his usual lucky ones that never payed more than a few dollars every now and then . ;D

Similar story as a bit of a Joke we spent 1 xmas in the Venetian casino at Macau. Misses went up to bed came back down to the floor 3 hrs later about to blast me for being so late. I then dumped about 8k of chips on her i had won on roulette and told her to take care of it.
I then went up to bed no missus and hour later this is like 1am she rocks in with 5 porters following her with all the shopping she has done

Me ??? $20 & I think I've done well :'(

when mates whinged I was winning raffles they entered all the time I'd ask how much worth of tickets they had bought, when they'd say $5 or $20 worth of tickets, I'd reply I'd bought $50 worth....the raffles were to raise money for charities, so I'd just call it a donation, and if I won something then that was a bonus. Some people are lucky, but I reckon people that win multiple prizes are usually the people that enter more times then others are prepared to do and thus put odds in their favour...gotta be in it to win it I guess.

One of my mates won an MUX at one of the camping shows a few years ago. It was kitted out with fridges, tents and awnings, bulbar, lift kit etc. Worked out well for him because his Prado had died. We no call him tin arse!

Last thing I won was a double pass to inflatable world (nothing rude here guys...). Since I don't have kids I'll end up giving them to friends I think.

To date my most memorable win was when I scored a bunch of trees at the Elmore Field Days when I was a kid for answering some questions at... the Landcare stand? Yep. I won a bunch of tree seedlings...

Was kind of handy because my parents actually were looking to buy some trees to plant on the farm. LOL.

Won an assortment of raffles etc. over the years. Nothing huge or memorable. There's a church near us that has huge festivals. Entered the raffle at a recent one only to win a box of "Scoopon goods" of some promising sounding value... that turned out to mostly be junk - kitchen utensils you'd never actually use, t-shirts in size XXL (we're both pretty tiny people... I actually fit into kids clothes...), pregnancy or baby related stuff, some cheap looking sunglasses, etc.

I got into the car with my elderly dad a few years back and he asks “what does a Saab look like?” Why?? “Because I think I might have won one” Sure enough, Tatts was running a promotion to get people to sign up to a Tattscard and one of his friends heard his name announced.

2008 .... Better half decides its time to get a bit fitter and loose some weight ... goes out to one of the big sports stores and buys a big arse very expensive treadmill ... one of those 36 month interest free deals. Treadmill gets delivered and we all give it a hammering and show some results ... we're all really happy  ;D

Couple of months later we start getting strange calls on the home phone, and answering machine, from someone looking for the wife, but wouldn't leave any contact or call back details with the kids (who answered the phone as we were both at work whenever the calls came in) .... which the became strange messages on the answering machine ... which she religiously deletes as she thinks they are just phone spam. She's not a patient person

3-4 weeks after the calls started the wife's got a day off .... she's at home when another one of the calls comes in and she answers it .... not the kids .... guess what ??? When she purchased the treadmill, and she had no idea at all, it included and entry into a prizedraw for a trip for 2 to the 2008 Olympic games in China !! Airfares, 5 nights 4 star accomodation, games entry, tours, meals, etc, etc .... WOW!!! We NEVER win anything .... to say we were knocked out would be an understatement ... so we scramble to get Passorts renewed, sort Visa's, and get our ducks in a row for a trip to China  ;D  The caller was about to give up and get the prize re-drawn because they'd been trying for weeks and weeks to contact the wife with no luck .... dodged a bullet there !!

Some weeks later we get another phone call ... "Can you come down to the store ?? We are doing a media event and would like to present you with the prize in person, and get some media coverage and photo's ?" .... so she duly toddles off to the event as planned. During the presentation, she's given the prize, and is told (unbeknown to her) that it also includes an additional 7 nights in a Hotel in southern Beijing for 2 with all meals included !!! WTF !!!  ;D ;D ... she comes home in tears. We get to go to the Olympics and then spend a week on our own in Beijing !!!

So we're off to the 2008 Olympics for 5 days, then 7 days on our own in Beijing to do as we please ... MAN talk about luck !! By this time we are both pumped.

2 x weeks before we're due to leave we get ANOTHER phone call .... voice on the other end says "Hi, it's Sam from XXXXXX .... your trip to the Olympics is about to start .... can I have your bank details so we can deposit the spending money for your trip please ?" .... Spending Money ?? SPENDING MONEY !!?? WHAT SPENDING MONEY ????.... The prize ALSO included (again, we had no idea and hadn't been told) $3000US spending money ..... JAW DROP !!!

So off we go to the Olympics, all cashed up, spend our week rubbing shoulders with the Chinese after the Olympics part of the trip, enjoyed the Olympics and every bit of the trip, and arrive home STILL with $2000US spending money unspent .... Believe me, we tried hard to spend spend spend, but stuff, food, entertainment was so soooooo cheap (all our meals and accom' were already covered) that we only managed to spend 1/3 of the prize money.

So she wants to pay out the treadmill by cashing in the US$ for AUD$ .... but the exchange rate is good, so I convince her to sit on the money .... 6, maybe 9 months later the arse has fallen out of the Aussie dollar against the US$ and we cash in the remaining $2000US for close to $3500AUD .....  :cup: ..... THEN we pay out the interest free treadmill finance and pocket roughly $2500AUD.

So .... We had a trip to the Olympics, a week in Bejing on our own recognizance, bought a flash treadmill and pocketed $2500AUD for FREEEEEEE !!! (we paid for passports and visas) ... someone PAID us $2500AUD to go do all that !!  :cup:

Hows that for lucky !!  ;D

... and that will be the last time in our lives that we win anything !!

1. Use to take the dog to obedience training each week. Spent $2 buying a raffle ticket and always won. Meat tray, camp chair, alcohol the list goes on.   Got to the point when raffle was being drawn everyone stopped and looked at me.  Stopped going after 6months.  Was too embracing, won every week.

2.  Thought we bought a Gold lotto ticket for a Tuesday night draw.  Checked the ticket-no win.  3 months later get a cheque in the mail for $3 500.  Thinking what the?   Realised the ticket was for a Thursday night not Tuesday - Winner.

3.  Husband spent $10 on 2 raffle tickets and won a bottle of Grange Hermitage 1995.  Opened it on October last year after the Elton John concert.

Not lucky, just in it.  We don’t buy that often but when we do it is at the right time.

I cashed in a lotto ticket once and the lady that checked the ticket got all excited and started waving her hands all about - I thought I had won the big one she was that mental so my heart started racing big time!!!

Eventually she blurted out that I had won $900 - but it was the biggest amount anyone had won with her checking the ticket, which is why she was so excited!!

fella i used to work for said his misses checked a ticket at the newsagents one day and it came up as "big winner", guy said he coildn't tell h er at the counter how much and had to take her out the back to tell her what she'd won. Similar to you she thought it was a huge amount, I forget the exact dollar amount she won, but it wasn't much more then the $900 you got...lol.

The misses recently bought a treadmill, still no phone call  :'(
