Just arrived home from 10 days away, Turned mains water to the house back on . Have had bathroom vanity pipes burst when away and flood a house in the past . .
Daughter comes out and says theres a big wet patch about 500 mm round in the middle of the hallway carpet near two bedrooms [ Has a full width / length plastic hall runner wear cover over it ] both sides of the carpet to wall are dry .. ???
Turn water off call the Real estate, plumber arrives, water back on, meter not ticking over indicating any flow / we check every water point of the house for leakage, bathrooms / kitchen / laundry / roof above the site etc and nothing, lift the carpet at the site and the concrete pad is dry, yet the carpet and obderlay foam is squishy wet and mouldy and no signs of water / dampness etc tracking along / the walls near to the site ... Theres been no rain since we went away ..
Got the plumber and me both stumped on this one .. ???

Sorry Chris doesnt get that cold around here being right on the NSW /QLD coastal border .. There shouldnt be any water pipes running from the street main under the center of the house pad . Got us stumped .

Turn water off call the Real estate.......
So it's a renter? Does anyone else have a key?

Nup !, just us three and the area is / was covered fully by a length of plastic hall runner .. House was vacant for the past 10 days . Been here 7 years through torrential storms / cool winters / summer humidity / dry periods etc / never had it before ..

My guess is that the plastic runner has somehow collected moisture / humidity and acted as a roof to channel the water to that point?
Maybe that was a low or high point for the plastic. Still need to see the start point but check the ends of that plastic.

Thanks AA, With the plumber today we pulled the carpet all the way along the walls to the end closest to the bathroom 3m from site " dry " the other end is only about 800 mm away and ends at a bedroom doorway " dry " that end also .
