Guys....
My old LED Headlamp has failed and I'm in the market for a new one.... Wanting one that puts out a excellent light but also has settings that dull the light output. Also having the option for a RED LED to keep the bugs away would also be good....
What are some of the good ones to look at getting and where can u buy them?
Looking for something that I can use around camp so reaching 100+mtrs in distance is not a big factor but it still needs to light up the campsite. Need something that has settings that can change from full brightness down to a duller light where you're not burning your fellow campers eyes out. Having the Red light to keep the bugs away is a bonus too. Having the ability to change from spot to flood beam would be good to....
cheers...

I have this one. Love it. No red lens though. Red Cellophane is cheap....

Zebralight is the smallest, lightest and has brightness modes. No red that i know of though. Can get models that run on a single AA, which i have, or the bigger heavier 18650 batts.

Check out Black Diamond. They have all you ask for in some of their models - I've had one on my bush firefighting helmet for a few years and it has the red led and dim / bright white les settings.
I bought mine in Annaconda.

I have had a energizer one in my fishing kit for the last 5 years, can't break it

I use these, cheap, reasonable quality and light output, red & white, don't care if I lose it, all in 1 unit...

I use a Ferei HL-20 for trail running. Two adjustable brightness settings and rechargeable. When out camping with my boys it will light up a possum at the top of any tree you can find.

Sometimes I think I'm going mad.....than I realize same post on the forums.....
Been happy with LED Lensers, awesome light output but are hungry on batteries.

I said it on the other forum too. I rate these better than my Led Lensers and all my other LED torches buy a mile.

Mate, no affiliation, but jump on liteshop.com.au ... Good range of torches...Fenix, nitecore, olight , thrunite...all good brands with sub $100 head torches. Sure to find what you want .
I've purchased plenty off them, service is good.

I've got 4 black diamonds, they are great, if a bit pricey. Coleman do some good units too, with clever circuitry that depends on how you use it, it doesn't make you flick through all the modes to switch on and off.

For things like this i'll pay a bit more just to get something solid, especially with the way I use this in all conditions and know that I can rely on it.

led lenser H7 version with 3xaaa batteries (140 lumens). It is a great beam, does all you ask except for red. But my first one died within a few months. 2nd one (per warranty on first) has also just died (loose wire from the battery terminals and I can't fix it; it's aobut 12 months out of warranty now :( I don't think I'll buy another led lenser since they're obviously not tough enough for my habits, so I will follow this thread for ideas. I want a super-bright (though dimmable), long-range and focusable one for hunting. Some of my friends use wolfeyes and they seem bright and strong.

Another vote for black diamond. I inherited my sons that had been through kapooka, pucka and numerous exercises in the centre. Worst looking heaplamp I got and works like a charm. No idea on cost.
I also have one of those energizer ones was quite cheap has hung in well.

Looks like SuperCheapAuto has a special on for this weekend only, so for $20, I bought one of these:
Specs:
Light Output: 240 Lumens
120m beam distance
Modes: High > Mid > Low > Slow Flashing > OFF
Run Times: Main-LED - 8h (High), 20h (Mid), 160h (Low)
Worth giving it ago for $20

Led Lenser H7. Had it for a few years, use it at least once a week. No probs.
Bought the kids an eBay rip off version of it for less than $10 over a year ago. Theirs are just as good as mine, just hungrier on batteries.
Cheers
