Title: re reg a WA ute in NSW....update
Post by: 6knights on December 04, 2018, 10:13:07 PM
Can anyone help me out with WA car rego criteria are the strict like NSW and need annual inspections to keep them in order or are the ho hum about it and register anything that goes?

Reason being is that I am going to have a look at, in view of purchasing, a WA registered ute that has been brought into NSW but I don't want to get caught out with a ute that won't pass our NSW laws and end up having to pay a big repair bill just to get it over the line so that I can drive it again

I am hoping that WA is like the NSW system where inspections are a legal requirement and it's just a matter of a blue slip and away I go, but I'm not sure

any help?

Thanks

After going through this myself.

A vehicle brought into NSW from WA will be classed as an unregistered vehicle (for registration purposes) You can still drive it in NSW with WA plates for 3 months (but seriously i drove mine around on WA plates with no issue until the rego ran out)

There is no linking of data bases between the 2 states so you will not get credit on your NSW rego or the like if there is still time left on your WA rego (hense why i drove it till the rego ran out)

You need to do the following
1. Go and get a blue slip if you have your WA rego papers proving the car is registered and it has the weight of the vehicle on the rego papers you are sweet, the guy will check that chassis, VIN numbers etc match up and give the vehicle a quick once over for seat belts indicators and the like.
He will then lodge this electonically for you
Get a Greenslip online
Take Rego papers Number plates to the RTA line up for 2 hours do a 5 minute transaction and put your new plates on... drive off

If the vehicle is not currently registered in WA i would stongly suggest you get even 6 months rego put on before you bring it over. if you have no rego papers you are then put through the full pits inspections and any defects or non compliance's will have to be rectified.

WA does not have any inspections after a car is registered.
Get it checked by a competent mechanic before you buy it.

thanks for the help,

The ute has rego till May 19, funny thing is that the WA rego site shows that it has no record of the ute on there data base which is the same story as the contact center that I got in touch with so it will be interesting if the bloke can produce some rego papers that are current

inspection is tomorrow so it will be interesting to see what unfolds.

It may still be kosher.
Here in WA you have 3 months after rego expiry to pay without having to have it inspected. After that it doesnt show up in checks.
He should still have rego papers, so if the papers show it was rego in his name, normally a signed receipt and the expired rego papers is enough proof of ownership when re rego.
Get the receipt done on a photo copy of owners drivers license.
If car is stolen it should still show up on REVS.

Cheers Glen

You did try this site:
https://online.transport.wa.gov.au/webExternal/registration/?1

Unfortunately I don't have a WA rego to put in there to check how it works, but I do know that the NSW one sometimes throws some curve balls out (one of my old rtegos doesn't exist... but I had it registered in NSW...)

Any details you can share so we can help work it out? Had a quick look on Gumtree and couldn't see anything straight up that might be what you are looking, and got fed up of Facebook Marketplace...

If you have issues with entering the rego on that site something is not right with the vehicle, I just entered various rego numbers from vehicles here at work and they all came up. All that website will show is an expiry date no ownership details. Given you will want to register it in NSW the WA rego side is not such a big deal, id be more concerned the vehicle is stolen or something like that.

Put in the Vin Number too, if you've got it.
I'd be using the number stamped into the chassis, not the one on the Plate.

It should show even it is unregistered unless it has been without reg for a few years.  I know VicRoads archive after about 5  years without rego.  So if it has been without rego that long I'd be worried about what else hasn't been done like services

Its taken me a while to get back to thanking you all for yor input, l did manage to locate it on some of the suggested sites.
l did end up buying the ute and the rego change over went quite smoothly,  only needed a couple of tie rod ends and some shackle bushes to get it through the blue slip process.
All thats left now is to hand over the keys to the daughter as it will be her mode of transport to and from  work .

This is the one......
