Message from the Ambulance Service

We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign.

The concept of 'ICE' is cat...ching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency).

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call. He, therefore, thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose.

In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialing the number you have stored as 'ICE'. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc

Please forward this. It won't take too many 'forwards' before everybody will know about this. It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest.

Note: To all those with passwords on your phone. I have been informed there are stickers and iPhone applications that can remedy this situation.

I label my favourite people ICE1, ICE2 & ICE3 ... you never know if someone might be out, asleep or have a flat battery themselves.

Well done Kit_e I too have done this to my phone. and no Mr Plod is not that thick!! There is nothing worse than not knowing who the person is that you have unconscious or worse laying there before you. It is very advisable to edit your contacts so that your loved ones fill I.C.E 1,2,3.

While I have these numbers setup on my phone, I also have it locked. How does an emergency person get around these locks to get my numbers out?

You could also have a Card with I.C.E numbers on it in your wallet. If you are badly injured or (God forbid) killed, it is one of the first port of calls for info.

Refer the wikipedia link in my previous post.  Depends on the make of your phone I guess.

Using an iPhone in which one can customise labels (gotta luv Apple ingenuity) my ice entry has my wife's christian name, and my son's christian names, each against their individual mobile number.  8)

I put I.C.E. then the number, then person description eg wife, and then the name. This helps the emergency service people in knowing who they are calling.
