Hello from New York City
« on: June 12, 2014, 12:08:53 PM »
Hi everyone,

We have been reading this forum constantly for the last couple of months as we have been preparing for our (maybe semi, maybe full) big lap.  My husband and our twin boys (age almost 5) will be heading off in early August.  We have gotten so much info from this site.  We live in the US and we are about to move to take this trip.

My husband and I spent 2 months camping in WA in 2007 and have been trying to figure out how to get back ever since.  We have ordered a Cub Supamatic Regal and as of today we have a 2005 Landcruiser series 100!

Thank you so much for all of the information you share.  I have no idea how we would have figured out any part of this journey without all of the insight on this forum.  I have been making full use of the search, but I expect that we will end up with some questions as we get closer to our departure date in early August!

Hi Miranda,

Welcome to Myswag,
.....   Did you use a well known 4WD Touring Company in Sydney to secure the 100 Series?
Familiar story.... friend of mine is collecting a 100 series today and driving back to Sydney for someone in the States.

Thanks everyone! What a nice welcome! We are really looking forward to it. We'll be sure to post more details here when we have them.

Yes, I think that's me   Vic Widman from Great Divide Tours has been such an enormous help to us.  He has given us lots of advice, answered endless questions, most importantly is helping us get our vehicle so it can be fitted out before we arrive and need to move into it!!

Between Vic and MySwag our crazy idea of traveling Australia in a camper trailer has gone from an abstract dream... to something that will start in 7 weeks!

I would love some feedback on our initial planned route.  What is the best place to post questions on that topic?

Yep,  Vic is a neighbour and a very knowledgable man on all things 4WD Touring, so I guess I will see your new car over the weekend.  Congratulations,  What a great adventure.  I just finished watching a DVD blog call the 'Big Lap' , may interest you; http://www.expeditionaustralia.com.au/category/the-big-lap/

Welcome to the forum & Aus.

Just remember the following on your travels

Dont worry about Wolf Creek, there's more dangerous critters out there

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

Local Swaggers can point you in the right direction to see things others just miss . lts a case of drive down that road a few miles till you get to the 3rd creek crossing then come back 1 crossing to find that lovely camp spot  .  :cup:

We loved touring the red centre in our cub supamatic escape (2012) last year. Towed so easily behind our prado and no dust in the cub after travelling on the dirt roads. Enjoy your trip.
