1917 on Netflix, follows two messengers attempting to get an urgent message to a frontline general and save the lives of 1600 men.

I found it very slow and lacking possibly due to focusing on the 2

Yes its a movie ..yes its entertainment, though when they start saying its the best WW1 film thats when I balk ..Have never seen such Pristine untouched by war countryside in any original photos dated around that time .. Maybe in 1914 when battles for areas began it would have been but not after three years oif total war .. and magicaly the trenches are almost precision perfect ..The modern style combat techniques the two used when going through the trenches clearing .. Hobnail boots on the steel bridge girder, would have been slipping all over the joint in that scene [ I had the displeasure of being issued the bloody things once ] .. then comes the sniper, he was a sitting duck totaly exposed and yet the Sniper is that bad he puts a round into the water 10 + feet away then magicaly gets on target at angles he cant physicaly shoot at ..The guy didnt have a round chambered and had to cock his rifle after all he had been through  ;D ;D  ... Being picky, yes .. If your going to do those scenes  at least do it to the period correct and believable way .
Just a few things of the many that bugged me with it and a lot of other so called great war movies are no different with their short comings  ..  Flame suit on  ;D ;D

The guy didnt have a round chambered and had to cock his rifle after all he had been through

That's in just about every war / cop / spy movie or show >:( Especially when you've had your pistol on the baddie (or vice versa) for 5 minutes, telling him to drop his gun, then, to prove you're not joking, you cock it - & a round doesn't get ejected, so there was nothing up the spout all that time! ::) >:D

The couple of other things that got me were they had to work their way through the German tunnel, dodging booby-traps & all sorts of dangers, then get out the other side & he gets picked up by the other unit & given a lift in a truck! So why didn't they just drive there in the first place ???

Then a bit later, he's in the river & goes over a waterfall ??? They're on the Somme & the high ground is gentle, rolling hills ~10m higher than the rest >:D

The main reason it got so much hype was the "one shot" technique where it looks like a single continuous film.  Lots of people walking past the camera etc, to allow clever editing.

As good as it looked I thought the same about the changes in landscape/war torn was too confusing

I saw this at the movies when it came out and again on Netflix last weekend. Enjoyed both times but there were some perculiar things. They enter the German trenches and tunnels and it is a mud bog but when they pop out the other side it is dry and dusty. Agree on the being picked up at the house when the plane crashed. why not drive from the beginning. When they are driving away from the house the tree they moved off the road disappeared. Why did he run away from the German in the ruined town and not shoot him.

finally got to see Dune.

wasn't keen on going to a cinema to see it and risking Kyria getting sick with her asthma. So a mate got me a pirate copy. Unfortunately the sound was Shit and we never got beyond the first 10 mins of it.

Finally gave in and went to see it on the GMax screen at Katoomba last night. (tonight will be the last night for it on that screen as tomorrow evening that screen will switch to the new Spider-Man movie)

The cinema was sparsely attended (thankfully) and OH MY GOD... that movie was made for the extra big screen!

Brilliant movie. Followed the book closely enough that I was happy and set up future sequel(s) perfectly.

Loved it.

I agree with all that Edz. But it was a common thing to leave a spent case in the breech to keep dirt and mud out., but also a live round could go off with all the banging and rough handling as the firing pin is pretty much against the primer...

The Best of Enemies, true story about racial integration in North Carolina in 1971, told as a movie not a documentary.
Very enjoyable if somewhat predictable at times.

Definitely NSFW (or Family, for that matter!) ;D

& I'd say that they've set it up for a Part 3.

Yeah, saw this a couple of nights ago. Next one is going to be interesting!

Then watched Blues Brothers for the first time ever last night! Spent most of it wondering why the hell everybody has been raving about it for the last 40 years ::), but the last ~15 minutes was good ;D

You have to really be devoted to the franchise to enjoy it...

I didn't think it was that bad myself
