Cooking Responsibilities When Camping
« on: May 31, 2011, 07:54:04 AM »
In our family, when out camping, I (Hubby) normally do most of the cooking, whether it's done in the Cobb, over the camper kitchen, or over a fire.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I do all the cooking when camping, but under normal circumstances, I don't mind cooking up a storm of some sort.

At home I have to admit I do very little cooking, unless we're having a BBQ, and so enjoy the change when we're camping.

We are the same as you Gunna Do. I rarely cook at home but do 95% of it when camping. I enjoy having something to do at the campsite. (apart from making beers disappear).

Recently bought a cob off NewcastleNight and cooked a meal at home with that though. It was just practice for camping though.  ;D

I voted for Hubby Does Cooking, only because it was the most correct answer.  In reality, I'd guess the split whilst camping is something of the order of 70%/30% in my favour, and close to 50/50 at home.

Now don't ask my wife about cleaning!   :-[

My wife didn't cook - at all - when I met her. Too much disposable income  ;D (she wonders now what the hell she spent all her money on back then) . I taught her to cook, probably one of the smartest three things I've ever done in my life as she is now a great cook and loves to experiment.

She handles all cooking and feeding of kids Mon-Fri (I make a sandwich for our eldest daughter to take to school each morning when I make mine), and I do all of it Sat-Sun. Works well for us, it gives her a 'weekend' to look forward to just like I look forward to mine.

When camping it's pretty much 50/50. If I do a cooked brekkie she does dinner that night, if we just have cereal I'm cooking dinner. And in theory, whether at home or camping, if you didn't cook you do the cleaning up, but in reality I do 80% of the cleaning. I clean as I cook which is half the battle, she doesn't do that...

With us, it depends on how we are cooking.  When we are camping. she normally cooks if we are using the gas stove and I normally cook if we are cooking over a fire.

I do most of the cooking while away so I dont have to wash up

We also do group meals when away with the extended family so you get a few nights off

When camping we share ;D  If its in a pot or pan its hers, everything else is mine. I dont wash up ever!!!!!!!!!. Only cook on the BBQ at home and again I dont wash up, ever lol. Washing up is bad for tradesmen because it makes your hands soft  :D

At our campsite the boys cook when there is fire involved, the element of danger I guess >:D and the girls do most of the stuff in the kitchen, keeps both parties happy

When camping I cook 95% of the time and that includes preparing non cooked beakfast, cereal etc. I also wash/clean up probably 85% of the time. I don't mind as the wife probably does 65% at home and she works fulltime too.

How'd it turn out?

It took about 2.5 hours to cook and the meat turned out nice. The vegies were put on the tray with the meat about 30 mins after the meat and they were under cooked.

I am going to try again this weekend with a piece of lamb and see if I can get the vegies sorted. Ill put them on with the lamb.

He only cooks if I'm not there to do it for him (camping or home).  Even BBQ's at home, the male guests usually end up cooking most of the meat while he keeps them in drinks.

50/50 for us when camping, also the same for us at home. I cook most weeknights as Bonnie is at work and she likes cooks on the weekends. Bonnie is a better cook than me though.
