We have a 4.5 month trip planned for next year up through the Kimberlies..... and along come a family wedding.....

So I am trying to understand what is realistic...
The trip I have planned for the return was...

Leave Broome
Travel to Bungle Bungles
Make our way to Alice Springs via the Tanami
Then down to Cooper Pedy
Across to William Creek
Then to Marree over the Oodnadatta
Up to Birdsville
Across to Windorah
Across to Charleville
Then Roma, Brisbane.

According to Google Map, its 5275 kms.. Its 33 days

Is that do-able....comfortably..... ????????

Or should I plan to stop somewhere, fly her home, then back agin after the wedding, and just take more time off and do it comfortably?  (I think I might be answering my own question )

Flying home for the wedding means you only lose a couple of days out of the trip (assuming it is not a massive detour to an airport)......

either that, or your other plan of rushing around for 33 days ?

Only you and yours can decide what fits best though.

For us  [ Close family ]  it would be secure park it / fly home day 1 ... wedding day 2 ... fly back day 3 continue trip ..
Family but not real close,  Fly one home and apologies etc for the other ...
Family not so close .. Apologies but we will be on the other side of the country ..

But Edz, if it was that close family, wouldn't it be 1 home, 2 wedding, 3 recover & 4 back out ??? :D >:D

Would all depend on how close you are to the bride or groom....

Why rush the trip? Fly home for the funeral, and then when you get back from your trip you'll be in time for the divorce party too

What Bruce said, Mark.

Surely you have a valid reason for non-attendance? In '05 I missed a very close aunties funeral, as I was around Barnett Gorge area on the GBR, and all involved understood.
Also, I would think the air fares would be  :o :o :o :o :o

A couple of points to clear up...

1. It was an instruction from my wife that she WILL be attending this wedding....even if flying Broome to Brissy and back was necessary...(close niece)
2. It was an instruction from my wife that she WILL be attending the wedding
3. It was an instruction from my wife that she WILL be attending the wedding

So with that out of the way, based on the dates of the Kimberlies trip, and the way we were heading home, there weren't going to be any viable airports that I could fly her to Brissy and then back to continue the journey... Alice Springs would be way too early, and Charleville is the next airport on our route, but that's only a 1 day drive from Brissy.

So I was thinking of looking to drive the Broome to Brissy via my above route, in 28 -30 days. Which gets us home in time for the wedding.

My plan B would be, if issues arose, or we are having too much fun, divert down to Adelaide, fly her home for the wedding and then back again, and then continue.

Hence my question was really about the viability of Broome to Brissy, via the described route, in 28-30 days.

Plenty of time to think about options, plus, two decisions have already been made.

1. Still going on your trip

2.  Your wife WILL be attending the wedding!

I'm sure you'll come up with a good solution.

Paul.
