Title: My Melting Ice Cream
Post by: xcvator on January 18, 2018, 02:17:45 PM
Why does my ice cream go soft in the "Bushman " fridge ? Every thing else freezes solid and stays solid, but not ice cream  :'( If I take it out of the car fridge and put it into the dinky little freezer in the hard sided camper fridge it goes hard again ( the ice cream I mean )
I've tried mixing viagra in it and cement pills, but they don't seem to work either, so how do you keep your ice cream hard when your camping  ???

Whats the temp in the bushman freezer vs the other, I suspect therein lies the issue.

Most things will stay frozen at around -1 or -2.
I’m pretty sure ice cream requires closer to -10, certainly more than -5

The International Ice Cream Association offers these suggestions on the proper handling and storage of ice cream

If kept at a proper temperature, ice cream will be thoroughly frozen and will feel hard to the touch.

The optimum temperature is 0°F (-18°C) or colder.

Duggies on the money, ice cream needs to be kept at a much lower temp than most other stuff to stay frozen. I'm guessing the car fridges isn't down low enough, and you'll certainly suck some battery juice if you want to wrap ya laughing gear around a pauls billabong..

On the subject of icecream.

You used to be able to get ice-cream that came as individually paper-wrapped slices (~3" x 2" x 1" thick or so) in a cardboard box.

Peter's ???

Haven't seen it for yonks :'(

Anybody have any ideas if you can still get it anywhere ???

Just eat it quicker and you don’t have to worry about keeping it frozen

FWIW
We first found these when touring in Sth Aus, (Leigh Crk).  They are are a nice ice cream and a good shape to fit the box in the freezer.

Hoping to be able to purchase them locally in Vic soon (see below).

from the Golden Nth website:

"Since Dec 2017 our ice cream has been listed in national IGAs, which means that our interstate patrons can now enjoy our ice cream outside SA! It might take some time to get our products on shelf to all IGAs across the country, in case you couldn't find our products in your local IGAs, we suggest that you can talk to the store manager so they can order the ice cream in for you. "
