Reading the paper today, they had an article on traffic controllers.
$42.25 hourly rate,
$45 a day travel allowance,
$22 a day meal allowance,
Up to $3.95 an hour site allowance.
That doesn't include RDO's and superannuation.
All that and all you have to do attend a course that takes less than 5 days to get a qual at the local TAFE.
Makes that Uni degree worth fk all.

Don't believe everything you read in the papers

and I only did a 1 day course to get my T/C ticket - that covered stop/slow bat and Traffic Management Plans
I don't use it just had to get it to clean drains ( go figure )

Don't believe everything you read. Their pay rate can change dramatically depending on when and were and who the job is for.

Most do pull Big Bucks standing on the road all day " Pole Dancing " Being sworn at by " Bickey Dippers out there , trucking fraternity , car drivers & all other Nardowells on the Highways . lts Hot/Cold/Wet /Dusty & most time dangerous .
There are those that earn about that but a lot that don't .
-
And if they are earning that much I say good luck to them. Superannuation is an amount stipulated by the government and RDO's are an amount taken out of their weekly wage and paid back to the when the RDO is taken.
-
Yeah they can earn good doe, especially working nights and on major roads but then again it can all turn to Shit like it did for my daughters partner two weeks ago. While still setting up on the Monash, he was driving the truck with the barrier on the back (cant think what they call them now) and got hit up the ar$e by a semi doing 100 klicks sent him 100 odd meters down the road turning him around a couple of times and totaling his truck, they said if it wasnt for him getting on the horn it would have taken out half his crew. And with some of the other stories he has told me i reckon he earns his doe

BTW he earns substantially more than that but has also has done a lot more training than five days and you forgot all the PPE
You also answered your own question regarding the uni degree when you see some of the brain surgeon's that come thru uni

University educated people can be the smartest dumb people around sometimes.

I have a mate who's a traffic controller and he makes about $32 an hour. Not bad money for a cert that's pretty easy to get and reasonably low skilled work. Not that I look down on traffic controllers at all, I used to do civil work in downtown Brisbane and they saved my ass plenty of times.
-
A lot of comments get made about how much Joe Blow makes. Very few comment on how little John Doe makes.

l have made lots of regular $ from Highly Educated Fool . l do the handy stuff that is beyond his grasp
-
Ummm. So.

I had a mate that did the stop/go gig for a while. He is a qualified aircraft mech and NDI tech, but it suited him at the time.
He ended up being the crew supervisor after a week, but had issues with the number of speed freaks that would turn up for a few days, then go on a bender for a few days.

Five day course!!!

Would that be an Air traffic controller
-
For those of you that want to whinge because they get paid more then you just quit your job, do the course, and stand on the street with the stick.
-
There's a lot more to what you earn than just the education side of things.
Would you want to stand out in the hot sun or pouring rain and freezing cold mornings day after day?
Completely unqualified operators and truck drivers in the mines can make more than 130k a year.

Why would you want to take a pay cut
