Had a friend in rugby sports marketing in NZ for the crusaders, but involved internationally. He told me years ago AU rugby was in trouble cause of a pay tv. The powers to be persisted because every country in the world accepts you have to pay to watch your sport , except here! Used to do his head in but we just don’t.

My take Crickets huge here but tests and ODIs are a sort of a th8ng you have going in the background. I never set up in front of the telli for the whole onslaught . I turn it on “to catch up on the score” and then sit an watch an hour or so. Or having going in the shed while I do something. Iam not paying for that simples

If you think Nines commentary was bad just wait to you see what seven can roll out. Iam spelling a dark time for cricket with all involved spending a lot of time trying to explain how it’s been a great move while they lose fans.

Yup other than Bathurst, I don't watch the Supercars anymore, I used to spend Sunday arvo watching the race. Same will happen with cricket.

I’m much the same. But I’m now firmly into the big bash. I’d probably pay to watch that, but if I only saw that and otherwise heard the tests on the radio then that’d be enough. If big bash went to pay, then I’m not so sure I’d watch.

In any event, it’s only the international ODI and twenty20 on pay isn’t it without being on Channel 7?  That doesn’t bother me too much.

I’d actually like to know how they got past the anti siphoning laws on the ODIs

That’s only about who can put in the first bid. It’s not about who can and can’t broadcast.

Ricky Ponting has reportedly signed a multi-million deal with the Seven Network to be the face of their cricket coverage.

Heading up the new team: Ricky Ponting.

News Corp Australia says the deal, signed on Thursday, confirms the former Australian captain's plan to take on a commentary role over a coaching position.

The 43-year-old had been talked about as a potential coach of Australia's Twenty20 side after the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.

Australian cricket underwent its biggest media shake-up in 40 years in April when Fox Sports and Seven signed a joint $1.182 billion broadcast deal to win the broadcasting rights from the Nine Network.

The two networks will broadcast all home and domestic cricket for at least the next six summers.

Seven will broadcast Test matches and 43 of 59 Big Bash games, while Fox Sports will televise every game.

Former Test vice-captain Adam Gilchrist signed with Fox Sports' cricket team two weeks ago.

Gilchrist and Ponting, along with Damien Fleming and Mark Waugh, were popular members of Network Ten's Big Bash League commentary.

Strange move.

Quote
The Bushrangers are no more. Cricket Victoria have discarded their men’s team’s nickname of more than two decades in a move to “de-clutter” what they believe is a congested portfolio of monikers.

The state women’s team’s nickname – the Spirit – has also been shelved, with the sides to be simply known as the Victorian men’s cricket team and the Victorian women’s cricket team respectively.

The move follows a recent shift from Cricket Australia who ceased formally referring to the national women’s team as the “Southern Stars”, however Victoria’s change is not believed to be the result of a directive from CA, but rather an acknowledgement that Big Bash League clubs the Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades are the promotional future of Victorian cricket. State team nicknames were introduced across the board in the mid 1990s, but times had changed, said CV’s cricket operations chief Shaun Graf.

Makes it so much easier for Seven and Foxtel to re-use the names, without having to compensate anyone, when they pinch them.

Can we swap Pointing and Gilchrist, I am not paying for a fox subscription anytime in the near future but would take Gilchrist over Pointing any day, and by a big margin.

I am sure they could find someone to fill the spot within a week, not have to wait twelve months.  Must be nice to think you are that irreplaceable.

Great days play so far in Adelaide.
Am enjoying the coverage from Kayo, so much cheaper than foxtel.

watched a few minutes yesterday and saw they were batting on a pitch that is doing not much at all, lost interest real fast and doubt i’ll watch anymore of this test. Talk before the game was them hoping it wouldn’t be a crap pitch to play on, may aswell just concrete in a pitch there and save the watering now.

Tried to watch but our team are so bad.  Not sure if the indians are that good or aussies are just  not up to international cricket anymore. So sad.  Maybe it is all because of that cheating embarrassment?  Kevin

Brilliant bowling / fielding display by India.
I'll sit through it, just like I did in the 70's when we were pounded by the Windies.
Time to rebuild without the 3 dumb monkeys.

Fairly sad when a bowler who worked his guts out for couple a days bowling looks more accomplished than the 'batsmen'... ?

'115 runs needed to avoid the follow-on'

Odds?

A follow on is our only hope.
Bat well in thew 2nd dig then let the Goat loose on a 5th day wicket.

Kohli does want to bat last, who can blame him.
They are 290 in front now, bat hard and fast for a few hours, get 450 in front then declare
and go in for the kill.
Perfect strategy really.
