Just old school basics and common sense.
and about 5 cars a year crossing the desert back then, not 5 unprepared 1/2 wits per hour.

But common sense was thriving back then.. its extinct these days.

The problem with common sense, these days, it not to common.

Can't you get a common sense app for your phone these days? No need to have it instilled in the person. Gee boys, get with the times........................... ;D
