Looking for recommendations for a CP in Cairns, preferably one not inhabited by the local ferals & bogans
Going up to see son, end of June, early July probably around 10 days, will be in camper.
I've had a look at past topics on this, but just after some current advice, as they can change over time & management changes.
Thanks in advance.

Quite a few Swaggers have stayed at Lake Placid before heading off on McGirr's Cape trips.

We stayed there in '12 and '14. It suited us, and we'd happily stay there again.

I agree with rockrat. Stayed at the Big4 Coconut Palms and had a great time.

The Big4 Coconut Palms is great , no doubt about that . Plenty to do for the kids ,close to town , easy to get too .
BUT you may want to consider taking out a bank loan if you intend on staying there .

We stayed there on the way back
From the top, loved the place, plenty to do for the kids, better half enjoyed a pool
Side massage and no problems for me do a bit of post cape camper maintenance 👍🏻
Cheers

If you're after a nice quiet park, Lake Placcid is great. Not much for kids to do so it's usually inhabited by couples and grey nomads.
We've stayed there on and off for the last six months between house sitting.
Facilities are either fairly new or recently renovated and kept clean.
I recommend it.

Coconut Palms, awesome

Another vote for coconut palms.
Yes, like any Big 4,it is a bit overpriced.
But seems to keep the riff raff out.

Stay away from Cairns Villa and Leasure and also Cairns Sunland Parks unless you don't mind sharing your belongings with the rest of the residents.

Lake Placid if you enjoy a friendly, quiet atmosphere with bush surroundings and away from the noisy traffic. You have the lake beside you and in my opinion a more relaxing park atmosphere. If you have kids then Coconuts the go. Like comparing camping with glamping!

When we were there in mid 2016 they were charging almost $60 per night for a powered site so we stayed at the Big4 Crystal Cascades which was about $15 per night less (we didn’t have children with us and didn’t need a resort style experience).

I’ve not stayed at Ellis Beach, about 40 km north of Cairns but would love to. Nestled amongst trees on the beach. Admittedly also with the Capt Cook Highway forming a boundary. Very popular.

Can any of you locals give me some info on the Cairns holiday park on
James Little St. I will be in the camper so concerned for security. Looks like were heading up on Saturday & my son lives in Lake street (near hospital)pretty close to there, so would be good to be closer for going out at night as swmbo wont drive & it looks reasonably close for taxis if i indulge.
The others, Big 4 & Lake Placcid just look to be a fair way
Cheers

I think it was the First City Caravilla that we stayed at. After booking and setting up we caught up with a friend who is a local who said it's the kind of park where people get stuff knocked off all the time... but we didn't have an issue. That said, we only stayed overnight and there were people there (we stayed in a group) the whole time with the stuff. Its not somewhere I'd recommend for a long stay for that reason, but for a quick overnighter it was alright.

Location is central but I would defo be keeping stuff secure
